Whats EGR all about (Exhaust Gas recirculation) is it needed ?- its fitted to my 911 SC but seen other cars without it, is it only fitted to USA spec cars to reduce emmissions ? If i remove it do i just blank off the pipes - any performance issues etc etc ...

Any views appreciated.

Nick

are we talking about the air pump here? if so take it off asap !! blank everything that doesnt come off with it off to prevent a vucuum problem and you have a few hp back !!

I was just going to ask the same thing!

One of the previous owners of my car removed the air-pump system (supposedly liberating another 5bhp).

Unfortunately, he only stuck ball bearings into the stems coming out of the exhaust manifold, and one of these blew out whilst travelling at 160.. Thought a head stud had gone *PING*!

Slightly peeved when I'd dropped the engine and THEN removed the heat exchangers to count only 5 stems..

Anyway, did the job properly with 6 Allen-Key ('Hex nut') bungs from Bert Gear.
