Possibly a stupid question... but have just had a new clutch fitted by Project Nine Engineering and clutch take-up is incredibly near the floor. Was warned when collected car that clutch would take a while to bed down. Clutch is not slipping and pedal is light by comparison with before clutch change. Old clutch plate was shown to me and was down to rivets. Before raising with Cliff at Project Nine is this normal for a new clutch / will it get better / does it need adjustment / is adjustment easy??? Thanks in advance for any information / opinions etc. Nick |

do you have to push the clutch pedal as far down to release the clutch also, is the pedal stiff, there are I think 2 stages of spring on the 964 clutch pedal,if the pedal is stiff. Sounds to me though that there may be air in the system.Has the master/slave been changed? |

Thanks for replying. I need to push pedal right to the floor to engage gears / release clutch. Pedal is very light compared with before changing clutch - the heavy pedal was explained to me as chief reason for clutch change (and as at 130k with only one clutch change I decided to change clutch and get the benefit of new clutch for "Porsches, Passes & Palaces tour in Sept 13). Master / slave cylinder have not been changed. Brakes are fine and I think?? hydraulics for clutch & brakes are combined - only one reservoir?? Therefore probably not air in system?? Nick |

From memory the only adjustment on the clutch is pedal position relative to the master cylinder, so in effect free movement of the pedal before it actuates the master cylinder and therefore the hydraulics. The only common element of the brakes and clutch is the reservoir, so the clutch could well need bleeding. I am surprised that while doing the clutch that you were not recommended to change the slave cylinder? Seems false economy especially as you mention the car has covered 130k. It may be worth checking the slave cylinder to see if it's weeping fluid. It is normal for the clutch as it beds in, to move the position of where it bites on the pedal to become more to what your used too. |
