I am trying to get my 3.2 Carrera back on the road. It was running fine when I put it in the garage, but now I can't get a start.

The battery is fully charged up and the engine spins, but doesn't fire.

I have changed the DME relay (3 times!!) and it feels as though the alarm has immobilised the car.

Does anyone know of anyone in south Cheshire who I could get to come and do the diagnostic testing for (or with) me?

I am itching to get back on the road again!

Has the petrol gone off? Try putting a gallon of Super Plus in.

I'll try that, Sean, but the problem appeared within a week of putting the car away!

So, I've been through the battery, DME relay, etc since.

It won't be the petrol then, sounds like you are going to need a mobile spark to sort it out.

Maybe I'll save the cost of the Super Plus to pay the spark!

I'm hoping to locate a 911-friendly and experienced spark - I don't want to try someone who has no 911 experience or sees the badge as a licence to charge silly money before leaving me to be trailored to my 911 garage 50 miles away.

Any suggestions in South Cheshire/East Staffordshire/North Shropshire anyone?

Did you just park it up or have you been working on it?

Well ... I went to take it out as normal and couldn't get a start. Thought it might be the DME, so I ordered two, just in case.

In the meantime, I kept trying to start it: no joy ... battery run down.

Fully charged the battery, DME arrived and made no difference. Tried the second new one with no joy.

Had the plugs out to look. Even with the engine spinning healthily, no sign of any petrol on them, so I concluded the pump wasn't sending petrol through, but couldn't decide whather that was due to the alarm, or the DME or some other mysterious bit of electrickery.

I checked the fuses and they are all intact and clean (now extra clean!)

Since then, I have let the car stand for quite a few months and now that, hopefully the worst of the winter is over, I would dearly like to fire up again and take to the road.

Hi,

Have had this problem with a couple of different cars now

All seems O.K.
Battery fully charged according to charger
All electrics seem to work (ecliding ignition circuits)
Ingition seems O.K.
Engine may or may not turn

Problem, one dead cell in battery

Costs, two new batteries

Result both cars now fine

Therefore, recommend battery checked across terminals to see if battery cells fine

Thanks mymerak, I'm sure I can have the battery tested simply.

I hope that it is as simple as your problem!

If your having the battery tested, it needs to be fully charged and then left for a couple of hours, before its tested

I'll let you know how the battery test goes!

Sounds like I will probably still need a spark waiting on the sidelines, though.

Probably a DME relay, Fuel pump or a dormant security system has sprung back into life (We see one a month like this)
