Hi everyone.
Have just purchased my first porsche - a black 1990 911 C2 cab - which I have dreamed of for many years!

A hopefully small problem has arisen? A dreaded oil leak from the oil reservoir area. Could this be due to La Rose Porsche overfilling her on recent service - is there an overflow if overfull? There were no oil leaks before or for 500-600 miles after the service??

I just wondered if this sort of oil leak was common on overfilling? Any comments welcome.

Over fill wont leak near res tank.

yes, likely to be corroded or a split line somewhere. Pics would be good.

Park the car on a curb and take a look under the car on that side.

Could be an over fill, the oil makes its way past the cam covers and tin work and can drip onto the undertray and migrate before dripping to the ground.

Could also be the cam seal on that side of the car for the power steering drive belt shaft.

Most common issue arround there would be leaking cam covers.

However if the leak is further outboard, it could be a corroded tank behind the wheel, or the thermostat manifold with drain in front of the rear wheel.

If it's leaking from the oil res area it's most likely to be one of the two rubber hoses that connect the tank to the steel lines that go on to the engine. Remove the drivers rear wheel to confirm, it's an easy repair.

Thanks guys for all the helpful advice. With the rear wheel off I can see that the oil leak is restricted to the oil reservoir area and dripping off the oil thermostat drain plug - there are no leaks on any pipes or the engine - thank goodness! Will advise outcome when it is taken apart.

Final answer to oil leak - metal bracket for oil tank float level on outside of tank had corroded under assault of crap thrown up by rear wheels. Corroded bracket had buckled allowing oil to leak past rubber gasket. £120 for new float & bracket! Now must remember to clean oil tank and spray some waxoyl on periodically to prevent future leaks.

At least it wasnt a enpensive repair.
My stat leaked (corroded) not cheap.
The rear arches on 64,s are so prone to misshap, with havin no sh@t shields everything gets hammered.
The best bet is to clean inside the arches everynow and then, stop the muck build up and slows the rot.
