Hi All,

Just been out in my 1988 911 3.2 SC, I have only had the car 1 week so still very nervous about every little noise. But, sitting in some traffic, the car was in neutral, i noticed a noise when the clutch was released. The noise went completely away as soon as I engaged the clutch. The noise is a quiet rattle, it is very slight, as the wife could only just hear it. The G50 box and the clutch works great, with no problems whatsoever.

Is this something that needs looking at, or is it a typical 1988 G50 noise. I have read it could be the release bearing. But it has only happen this morning, I have been driving the car all week with no noise. When it stops raining, I will go out in it again to see if the noise is still there.

Any thoughts!!!!!

Release bearing chatter it sounds like. Or the input shaft is rotating in neutral by drag & making the gears rattle. Providing it has decent oil in the box & it doesn't get worse the I'd ignore it.

G50's do rattle. When the oil gets warm its the backlash in the gear train.

Porsche did a 'O' fix for this which you attach to the gear shift shaft under the rear inspectiuon plate.
