Well known rust weak spot for 993 is in windscreen corners/ scuttle....but you have to remove screen to determine full extent.
Paul aka 'Glassman' (do a search on Pistonheads) is the 993 pro at removing and refitting 993 windscreens.
I took my car to Fully Loaded cars in north London as recommended by 'Glassman'- they do the job properly and are considerably cheaper than an OPC or Porsche Indy

Just had my Rear Chassis Legs repaired/restored/resolidmetalled [!] at Precision Porsche.. The corrosion was extensive, and went as far back as the transmission tunnel, but they cut it all out/replaced it with metal, treated and put her all back together..

£3500 for the RCL work..

Oh Wow!!! ouch! Very unlucky there, they are one of only a couple of corrosion weak spots on the 993, and for sure if I were to be considering purchasing a 993 today, I would want to see in there before parting with my hard earned!! Got to remember they are all at least 20 years old, so likely they have a few niggles. Most of the cars look brilliant but that problem is not really visible until we start to take them to bits, it is disappointing that something as basic as that can catch us out.

Yeah, I wish it was Bad Luck, but I think it was my fault for being too hasty to buy the 993 in the first place..

100% agree.. I wish I had, but then, it has been a learning experience that I have valued along the way.. I now kinda consider my self quite knowledgeable in things 993, but it was an expensive lesson!!

Anyways, my 993 is solid now, and I can drive her knowing so.. I could have done with paying about £10K less for her than I did, but like I said above..

I hadn't even heard of this issue when I bought mine, mind you that was 16 years ago, and I still did not know about it until it was posted on here, I was probably Porsche blind!!! I did have a look at mine again recently, looked ok still, but will have another close look /strip down when rear PU comes off next?

I have no affiliation with Fully Loaded cars-/ they are not a fancy Porsche garage and operate from a grim industrial estate on the outskirts of London but they charged me £2500 for doing both all the windscreen scuttle repairs (the front windscreen needed extensive work)
and all the chassis leg repairs (replaced rotten metal work).

One bonus is that the boss at Fully Loaded Cars knows Paul at
Glasstec and arranges for him to install windscreens after scuttle repairs.
Paul is the 964 and 993 expert in this field.

If your 911 needs any rust repairs it’s definitely worth trying them- they do a good job and are cheaper than a Porsche specialist.......as long as you ain’t interested in a fancy reception area and coffee machine .
