Well the bat has gone totally flat! - whats the view on either going for a official porsche battery at no doubt huge cost or a bosch / varta. Not Official but probably more reasonable. In the user guide it states

Use only Porsche batteries as the data on the battery housing will not allow identification of a suitable matching battery that meets all specific porsche requirements....whatever that means

Howver there are a load of sites on line selling batteries for Porshces and the dimensions are the same???

Any views...

As I understand it their aren't many factories making car batteries anymore so I pretty much buy on price & convienience. Mine has a Halfords Battery on it with a 3 year warranty & I've no doubt it will be fine. In 30 odd years of motoring I've only had one battery prematurely fail & that was replaced without question by the supplier.

Looking after them seems to be more important, either with a float/conditioner charger or a solar panel.

Yes , there has been loads of stuff on this topic , I remember on P1 and on PCGB . The 993's have a reputation for battery eating (also 996's) therefore it has been a hot topic . I seem to remember the standard porsche supplied battery did not stand the test of time very well and I think the prefered replacement was an Exide heavy duty unit . Suggest u check out the above sites , must be loads of stuff there plus JZ Machtech have a lot of imput , let us know how you get on , I need one soon

To save you wading through loads of posts, Clive, here is a summary:

The Porsche battery (Moll) is huge money (circa £240) and doesn't last.

The Bosch Silver battery seems to be favourite as it has a 4 year warranty & Costco is cheapest. Watch out for Halfords fitment charts as they have proven to be wrong!

I have used a Bosch Silver on this car and my 964 ,most large motor factors supply them and they are every bit as good as the Oem battery, infact the the one I took off the 993 at xmas is now on my BMW 328 tourer after buying a Ctec battery conditioner (a must for any 993 owner)

...I also have one of those....haven't had a problem with Halfords....and yes 096 is the right code for the 993 battery.
