I dropped the 4S off for a Tiptronic Service and a Minor Service with Jon and the guys today.

It has always concerned me that the Tip Box is not a standard service item and after 8 years and 48,000 miles it must be due some lube.
What I didn't know is the box can be reset to reflect your driving style :D

I picked the car up this evening and what a difference, the kick down is sooooo much quicker :bounce:

A good explanation by the technician of what is going to be needed in the next 6-12 months in terms of wear and tear. I also received my 10% discount which would pay for a years membership, happy days :D

The Tiptronic transmissions are widely missunderstood even by specialists and main dealers alike.

From experience and discussions with the two manufacturers of the transmissions for Porsche, we learned that it is best to service these transmissions every 35,000 miles to avoid longer term damage and the improve the driving experience for the owner.

If they are not properly serviced, at about 50,000 miles the transmission begins to have built up contamination, the filters begin to clog (starving the trans) and the fluid looses its lubrication properties, which lead to the transmission failing at anywhere from 5,000 to 30,000 miles after that.

We also have the equipment to reset the transmission control unit back to factory defaults (which allow it to adapt to the owners driving style and the rest of the car) as well as uploading the latest revision of factory Porsche software at the same time. Well worth the effort.

I beleive in giving giving credit where it's due so a big thank you to Jon and Jamie and their team at Jon Mitchel Garage. I was undecided as to whether to make the trip from Liverpool to Christchurch!! or get the work done up north. Anyhow I plumped for the full job at JMG and got a great deal and a great job, he even honoured an 18 month old price. I got around 300HP, still get around 26mpg, and he sorted out a couple of old issues with my car (saving me a clutch in one instance!) Knowledgable and proffesional. My car now has wings! it even gave a young chap in a focus RS a surprise on the motorway! Cheers Jon and Jamie.

Glad to be of service!

Was great to meet you, hope you had a good explore around the local area, and its great to know you are enjoying the new performance. I always say the kit you had is how the Porsche engineers intended the car to be.

A mod with no drawbacks and no impact on reliability or economy.. Many even tell us the economy is improved with our chips.

It has made a huge difference when left in drive, the changed own is so much quicker than before. It also drops into 1st now which it had never done before.

I have to think when I drive around corners and roundabouts :)

Definitely worth doing if you have not serviced your Tiptronic Box :bounce:
