Post subject:  computer software problem- sorted by Brett

Thanks Brett you are a star !

Took me most of the afternon but both laptops now formatted reinstalled and configured thanks to your kind help.

I've had to buy a new hard drive for Mrs Peanut's laptop and need a copy of Vista to format and re-install.
I'd lost my original disk so bought another in January ,now I can't find that either

Her laptop has a license sticker so i just need a disk and they are all the same . I just can't bring myself to fork out yet another £65.00 for Vista when I'm saving to buy us both new laptops with Win7 for xmas. (her laptop won't work with Win7 )

thanks but I'm on benefits due to being a full time carer for my Dad who has Dementia. We get the rent and rates paid and thats it! nothing else except Dad's attendance allowance
Plus we are living on the floor in a rabbit hutch with only newspapers to keep warm
get the picture ?

Don't think I've got any Vista disc but will have a look to see what windows disc and COA I might have available

thanks Richard . the laptop came with a COA label on the base so any disk will do as they are all identical you just need to enter your own license number . I have an upgrade disk somewhere as well as a full disk but can't find that either . Everything has been boxed up to the loft to make room for Pops.

How come it won't work with windows 7? 7 is a lighter system than Vista. I'm running it on an old pc that used to run XP!

Hi :)

You are probably right although Win7 can have some problems with older motherboards in laptops....

Windows 7 also NEEDS 2 gb of ram to run at a decent speed and some older lappies are slot limited to 512 mb per slot...

All the best Brett :)

I'm not sure that all the necessary Win7 drivers would be available for these laptops . There are no XP drivers for this laptop which is why I never use mine.(I hate Vista )
I'm also not sure if all the existing software and our old files would be compatable with Win7.

Easiest solution is to just re-install Vista and HPG6000 drivers and software we use then restore all the backed up files and know for sure everything will work without drama

Thanks Brett I have noted your number if you wanted to remove it from the post. I'll call tomoirrow

I 'm not even going to read it Brett cos it will probably piss me off. There are too many people sniping at others on forums. They hide their real identities behind their ID's and get a kick out of winding others up. I've finally learnt to ignore them now. If I don't respond it leaves them nowhere to go.
Speak to you tomorrow mate
