Hi, I have a 968 that I want to under seal and am looking for some advice on trolley jacks and axle stands so I can get under it to clean all the old sealant off before hammeriting and sealing with Dynax S50. Prices seem to vary from £20 to £300 and whilst I don't want to spend £300, I also don't want the car falling on top of me as that would upset my wife not to mention leave a nasty stain on the garage floor. Any advice on what to get and where to get it would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I have the kit, jack, stands and wheel chocks from Screwfix for around £30. All rated at 2 ton and the 928 is only 1.75 ton at most. |

Hi  Whichever jack you get,, please remember its for LIFTING the car ...NOT holding it up... thats what stands are for ... I remember years ago when in a rush ...a Cortina dropped off a jack (no stands) and onto my chest  not a lesson I would ever repeat...All the best Brett

Having played it safe and spent more on mine, I'd recommend the best solution is actually to spend less on trolley jacks. My trolley jack is so heavy to hall around and difficult to manoeuvre in tight spaces that more often than not I borrow my friends mini trolley jack that he bought for about £15 from Halfords. He's had it a few years now and I've used it many times. It's a much better solution, just use the money you save to get yourself four axle stands to sit the car on once its jacked up and you'll be safe as houses. Note: if its anything like the 944 (and I believe it is) you will need to drive the car onto some wooden planks to get the clearance to get most trolley jacks under the car. One of the first great tips I ever got from the boys on Titanic. |

Hi Guys, Thanks for the feedback. I'm leaning towards maybe getting a 1.5 ton alloy trolley jack and some seriously strong axle stands. Thanks for the tip about driving the car up on to a block of wood, it'll probably save me a bit of head scratching. |

Hi The Jack looks good but the axle stands look a little cheap and nasty, and yes actually I always put one wheel under the car ...just in case it falls off the stands... All the best Brett

When I was serving my time I got a row for sitting on the wheel doing brakes. I got booted and told to put it under the car! |
