Yawn.... rally style driving in a big space, appeals to the drifters. Lots of better drivers out there. Look at some of the hill climbers either in the UK or europe. Restricted space, no sideways dramatics & similar horsepower.

I thought it was quite impressive if nothing else for car control. Shame the video of me doing donuts in the garage before posting a 1min 33 up Prescott hill climb didnt come out. Still you will have to take my word for it.

Brilliant car control,I certainly couldnt do that! Ken Block has been a stunt driver for sometime and has recently tried to take up racing I think at Indy and Daytona. I didnt realise Montlhery was still in use,the old banking clearly shown in the clip claimed a few lives in the old days although they maybe dont use it for racing anymore,just stunts and exhibitions. Jim,if that sends you to sleep you must be one hell of a driver!! :lol: More exciting than the current F1 I would say! Good hillclimb clips. :)

ken block was rallying last time i knew.he does have a lot of talent.but there are so many different driving styles and they can all be amazing in their different ways

Yes he has done some rallying hasnt he? Its always interesting to watch modern race drivers when they change categories I think.Sometimes they dont do very well whereas in the old days people like Jim Clark,Graham Hill,Jack Brabham and all the others used to race in F1,F2 and saloon cars all in the same day.Mind you these days every category must be so specialised and the cars so optimised for their respective events that the change over must be more difficult? :)

Yes but now he is rallying against the cream of rallying e.g. away from the US & in Europe he's an also ran! That is what I mean his car control is OK, but he has loads of space & sideways isn't necessarily quicker. Hence my example of the hillclimbers.

the first one with the aircraft hangers was pretty impressive and yes hes got good car control but after you watch a couple its just comes over as someone playing with themselves. hes got loads of money loads of room and practices these stunts.



better and more exciting imo. 2:20 onwards when the throttles fixed

:D Hello, just joined the forum to look at the group buy for gaz shocks but stumbled upon this thread. Fantastic clips. I love watching 10/10ths driving.

It's Ben by the way I go by Divinee on the PCGB, Rennlist and Niffty951 on pistonheads. Finally forced to join here! This forum thing is getting out of control!!!

I have to come down on the not my kettle of fish side on this one :mrgreen: , an entertaining clip I would think if you're in to drifting / doughnuts / car parks etc etc but I would prefer a good rallying clip anytime myself. As an aside I watched the rallying last weekend ( I think) and saw the most amazing crash caused purely by a wopping great camber type change in the 'road' did anyone see it ? Up in the air and straight in to a tree but everyone was O.K thankfully.

Yes I know what you mean Jim,but dont you find it strange that a bloke who can chuck a car around inch perfect cant really make it in the competitive events?Kimi Raikonen hasnt got very far in rallying yet but was world champ in F1.On the other hand John Surtees and Mike Hailwood both came into car racing having won world championships in bike racing and both adapted really well. Mario Andretti is one of my heroes as I believe he could drive anything anywhere and win,and in fact has done so. Jackie Stewart also drove in lots of different categories or classes and was always competitive,but sometimes you find that a driver who shines in FFord and F3 just cant hack it in F1.But that Colin Mcrae,wow! I ve watched Pastry s video clip 3 times now! I saw Colin in the forests quite a few times but he was coming and then gone very quickly,so that video clip is very good to watch as you are seeing the road through Colins eyes more or less. Great stuff :D

IMHO I think a large part of getting fast times on a circuit is about pushing it beyond what is safe/taking risks. You have to have an inherent feel for physics and car control to know what the car will do but I think someone who is used to calculated car control like Ken Block will only push it to 100%, to be fast you have to be going that bit beyond. Take a risk. I think that's where bike riders come good, taking risks.

Personally I like watching clips like this.. (2min10secs is the thing that puts me off owning an R500!)

I've never really watched WRC until Kimi Raikkonen left F1. I wanted to see how he got on with the change and I've got to say it's now got me hooked on WRC as well. I think Kimi is doing a pretty good job in his first full season in WRC. He's currently lying 10th in the drivers championship overall with a WRC career best 5th place finish in Bulgaria as far. Not bad really.

But compared to someone like Seb Loeb, they're just in a league of their own.
