are the camshafts off a 928 S4 like these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-928-S4-CA ... 51909e0021 the same profile as either the 944S or S2, if so these are a bargain

Hi Lindsay,
I am not sure of the answer, but if it helps the part numbers are not the same.

Regards
Paul

I spotted a website the other day advertising camshafts for 944's and I am sure they were also advertised as suitable for 928 16v of course. I know the hydraulic tappets for a 944S2 are the same as those for the later 928 and 968 part no. 928 105 312 02 so maybe the cams are the same.

Just because the part no's don't match doesn't mean they aren't the same profile. I have two camshafts in the scrapyard with different part no's (Possibly different manufacturers.) Which are the same profile for my 944. Got a spare with my new cam box. That would be well worth a try. Even if the profile is different it may not be too different. You would need to have them checked to see how far off the profile is against a stock one.

There's a pair of 968 camshafts ( with 944 part numbers ) on ebay at the moment.Starting price 49.99.Presumably they would fit a 944s2 as well.
