A trip west from London with narration by an IAM bod! Look at the lack of traffic. I would have been a car mad 6 year old then so the old cars bring a tear to my eye. Glad to see people hogged the outside lane then & failed to move! |

Wonderful. I'm also pleased that during the wet weather, Mr. Cholmondley-Warner clearly didn't mix cross-ply and radial on the same axle. ![]() |

I don't know if I am just an old fart, but I think I wouldn't mind having this chap teaching my teenage boys how to drive! With the exception of the double de-clutching and the hooting when you want to overtake (!!), it was sensible advice for young drivers: let the stupid idiot pass you, 'read' the road and the pavements constantly, keep your distance, drive according to the weather etc. As we get more experience we tend to do these things automatically, but for young drivers... And the 1957-58 mark I (I think) jag is a beautiful car! |

But yes generally good advice for youngsters, not that they listen though ![]() |

I was taught to do it, together with heel & toe & B. It speeds the down change, after 144K the synchros aren't what they were. C. With the Dansk exhaust it sounds brilliant! ![]() It's an age thing I passed my test in 1975 & most of the stuff that I could afford had no synchro on 1st, I was also driving vans around my Dad's yard around 2-3years before this & the breakdown wagon was a 4 speed with no synchro on any of them! |

I know what you mean,I too used to drive the older gearboxes on trucks as well as cars but I ve got out of the habit these days, even the trucks are automatic now. Yes,if the synchro is worn it can help.Just seems like such a long time since I heard the words "double declutching" !!! ![]() |
