Sir John Whitmore attacks Porsche in the Telegraph: http://tinyurl.com/yplnan Readers comments are invited........... I also urge all to write comments and to write and support Porsche in their judicial review. You can also sign Porsche's online petition here: http://www.porschejudicialreview.co.uk I trust TIPEC has written a letter of support to Porsche? Dave |

Interesting coming from a high flyer that travels all over the world. Pictuures of him on his company's website http://www.performanceconsultants.com/aboutus/sirjohnwhitmore.html in USA and Geneva. Bet his carbon footprint is ten times the size of mine even with two Porsches!! The reality of the situation is that most of us would probably prefer to go into London by train rather than by car but it simply isnt a good enough option. The last time I used the train to London to see a client was not a good advert for train travel. On the inward leg I had to stand for about half the journey after giving my seat to an elderly lady. On the return there were no seats to be had and I spent the entire time stood in the corridor next to a broken toilet with the most dreadful stench and there were no windows that would open for any fresh air. Cost £176.25 return. Now I travel by Porsche! |

Hey – as Porsche owners we are always gunna ‘get it in the neck’ from all directions. Trouble is that after many years of Porsche ownership and being fairly thick skinned even I am finding some sympathy for ‘other road users’ Problem I have is there are two cars driven by blokes, with small cocks I expect, who totally p1$$ off all other road users. You know how it is - I’m sure many of you guys have the same experience. I leave for work at the same(ish) time each day and often see the same bunch of road users. And most days there they are. Cutting people up, late braking so that they get in front of another car, drive along the filter lane for turning right then cut back in to the traffic. I have nearly crashed in to one of these guys as he pulled out of ‘his road’ on to the main road. I find myself feeling embarrassed cos I own and love a car that was made by the same manufacturer. I so hope to meet these two Boxster owners at an event one day so that I can call them face to face the exact words I use when I shout at them from my car! (I wont print it here) |

(I wont print it here) i agree, but fortunately its not just pork drivers, some think if they indicate it means I AM COMING ACROSS, not i am intending to move across if there is a gap, i drive 40k miles a year and see loads of incidents every day, the worst is at motorway speeds drivers moving from the outside lane to come off at a junction after the 100 yard marker is passed and braking hard causing the domino effect back along the carriageway, rant over, by the way paul, cars good many thanks ![]() |

I thought it was obvious from the beginning that this will be a difficult fight for Porsche, from a PR viewpoint it's a nightmare. Even hard-core Porsche enthusiasts would suspect that the motives must be closely related to the Porsche UK profit targets. Don't get me wrong, I put my name down to support their petition from day one, but it will be difficult to argue with the Green lobby that Porsche are doing this for any other reason than concern about number of cars they will sell. And people like Sir John will use this fact to "shame" Porsche. Other big manufacturers have taken different options, making sure they go with the prevailing wind - BMW had a letter in the Times last week flogging their green credentials, saying how pleased they were that a number of their models will be unaffected by this measure. Porsche UK are at the moment alone in standing up against the Stalinist dictatorship of the mayor, and I hope they will see their challenge through. Having started this, if they wimp out and don't go through with the judicial review, they will lose all credibility. Not an enviable position to be in, I hope they have the will to see it through. Good luck to them! Stathis |

Thing is, drivers have only themselves to blame for accepting these relentless and unjustified attacks from the authorities. Had we stood up for ourselves years ago we might have stood a chance. The total disinterest and apathy amongst drivers towards doing anything about all the anti car measures astonishes me. I used to be a tipec member (now drive an SLK) and a number of years back wrote a number of articles for the club mag trying to persuade drivers to join the ABD and get campaigning. Result was probably about two new members out of a group that have the most to lose. How many tipec members have signed this petition I wonder? Has tipec supported it or tried to get it's members to sign? It's all very well saying you don't live in London but this will spread everywhere if successful. The evidence against the anti car nonsense it out there. It's a battle we could have won (and still can) but the apathy of UK drivers is astonishing. They seem quite happy to roll over and let it happen. It could never happen if France or Spain, there would be blockades and strikes. Having manned stands at classic car shows trying to persuade drivers to part with a measly twenty quid to support the only organisation fighting for them and achieving maybe a couple of members in a day I've come to realise you all pretty much deserve whatever the likes of Livingstone throw at you. Well done Porsche but don't expect much support from your public. There are very few of us willing to do anything about it and the authorities are all to aware of this. Dave |
