how do these spammers get past the joining pages? do they hae to physically sit and fill the details in? or is it automated?

I really dont understand why they bother, I must delete about 5-10 eery day.

I believe this is done manually not by bots! I'm doing loads as well. I did suggest we block new users coming in on Gmail & I still think it is worth while.

Sorry, banning gmail is not an option - too high a risk of losing legitimate users.

I've just implemented a custom question on the sign up page and increased the noise on the CAPTCHA image to make OCR more difficult, both of which I'm hoping will slow the bots down a bit.

Gordon and Jim H (well volunteered!), please can you attempt to register new dummy users and make sure you can still get through? I managed it OK, but my eyesight is remarkably good, considering. Let me know if you have any trouble.

Took me 3 attempts to read it & enter correctly but I struggle with these anyway. I couldn't create an account as I only have one mail account & it knew it.

Check your PHB database I'm pretty sure there is an anti spam option in there.

Hi Jim :)

If they are not getting past the images you could always add the READ ALOUD option if this software allows it....for genuine users...

All the best Brett :)

I haven't seen a single spammer so far in the good few months I have been on the forum, so you must be doing a great job. Shame you have to do in the first place really.

Regards
Paul
