do you want to gain acces to front or top or both ?
for the top you have to put the roof back about 6 inches, presuming you have a plastic rear screen you have to look under the rear of the roof and unhook the weather piece from the back section where the cover latch is then on either side of the roof canvas you will find a wire with a ball joint on each end, unclip them from the roof side and not the car body, then fold the back section of the roof with the plastic screen forward ensuring you karate chop the screen so you dont damage it, the roof should stay forward uncovering the carpeted section with 4 plastic screws which half fold up so you can undo them, undo them by turning them 90 degree's and lift off and you will uncover the engine cover with 5 twist clips on undo and lift off and there you will find a nice dusty engine
if you want to get to the front of the engine you need to look where you have just lifted the carpeted section and you will see 4 plastic screw clips which undo, pull your seats forward and lift the carpet upwards and forwards to reveal another tin plate to rear of centre console with a series of 10mm nuts and bolts remove these and the front engine cover will come off..more than happy to talk ya through it if you want to give us a call in morning at work which is 01226 780237

thanks john will give it a go when weather is better high winds and dark skys in essex today,main reason for wanting to have a look inside is to see if there is any way of reducing general noise from engine etc coming into cab and have general nose around to see if anything might need attention in not to distant future, still miss just lifting bonnet on my old 944 s2 and seeing everything when you checked your oil and water.
