Lo all, apart from the obvious I.E the Cayenne , is there a Porsche that has just a bit more room in those back seats.

Already I'm really looking foreward to next seasons social days , picnics maybe weekends to foreign circuits etc as I do like to get out and get involved. I am pleased to see some of the regions saying they have good family turnouts and are encouraging it too.

However being the new owner of a 944 I am well aware tha there is no way my 4 year old and baby will be coming to any events and this is not good.

I was going to change my daily drive for a Boxster S but of course that would be even worse so I am going right off that idea. I have had just an initial look online at the various 911 varients and was wondering did one of them have better back seat room than the others. Failing that how to you guys get to events or just meets in a Porsche and still take the family.

Regards Mas

In my experience the 944 has the largest back seats of any Porsche (except the Cayenne) so you already have what you need.

I appreciate the seatbelt laws have changed in the last five years but I have only owned 944's since my youngest was 4 and the eldest was 7 and they have always been perfectly fine in the back. When the eldest got too big for the back then we simply bought a second 944 as my wife also loves the cars :D

At the moment if you want the family to go to a show in the Porsche I think you need the baby in the front facing rearwards and your 4 year old in the back (with your understanding wife  )

I couldnt even get in and im only 5'10 average build lol im going out to the garage to try it with a seat foreward. I 'seriously' would like to know what those folk who take their family travel in.

My 6'1" 21 year old son can sit in the front with the seat forward, and my 5'2" wife can sit behind him. We drove from Knutsford to York like that and it wasn't too uncomfortable for her. Even my 5'7" daughter can get in the back behind the passenger seat, but really only for short journeys.

I'm 6' and when I have the seat set correctly nobody has ever been able to sit behind me. It's really a '2 plus 2 small kids' car (so you should be alright), or 2 plus 1 big kid / smallish adult.

Definitely won't get any fat people in the back (say it as it is John).

my 11 year old daughter can just about fit if i push the front seat well forward, my 8 year old son is ok at the moment, but not for much longer !!

Think you'll find the 944 to be the most practical regards carrying passenger's and all there stuff but baby seats are tricky to find. There's a discussion somewhere on this forum about which ones fit, fortunately my two girls are both old enough to fit in back without booster seat. Or else a trip to halfords and a good testing session with them is in order to find a seat that fits. A bit of 'commitment' from all family members are required sometimes

I fairly often fit four adults in my 944 … it’s a tight squeeze but perfectly possible. It’s only really headroom that’s lacking.

Does the S2 cab still have back seats? Could that be the answer? More headroom, so long as it’s a dry day!

928 more roomy in back than 944. Even so I'd say for long journeys (with average size adults in front) only suitable for young teens max. Wife and kids have done many 100+ mile trips in 928 and no complaints at all. In fact they say it's very comfortable, though none of them taller than 5ft 2. No problems for a few years as older boy can go in front. I think my wife has stopped growing now.

S2 Cab does still have rear seats but altho the insurers list the car as a 4 seater it is definately 2 + 2 amputees!!.Reasonably comfortable for somebody to sit across the back seat though.

I have a baby seat for my lux. just grown out of the 0 to 9mths & have fitted another that will do until shes big enough for the proper seat. The japenese do booster seats that can be cut to shape & are only half an inch thick. Fits the letter of the law to keep plod off your back. No problems for at least 8 years. More if your childs small! (Dont feed em so well. )
If you want more details let me know.

I'm either abnormally tall or you lot are tiny. Once I've lowered myself into position in my 944 there's not a chance in hell anything is getting into the rear seat behind me. I've sat in the rear seat behind the passenger seat just as a test and I had my head tilted and discovered putting the front seat back and shutting the door resulted in the loss of a kneecap.

Come to think of it I think that's because I'm a lanky g*t.

me (6'1) my dad (6'1) and my brother (5'10) drove to le mans in a 993 a few years ago. Luckily my brother is a bit of a rake and folded up nicely in the back. When he got to drive i was in the back it was a bit tortuous but we all survived. Wouldnt say it was any bigger than a 944.
