At 19 I worked in a VW Audi garage I had lots of fun in MK1GTI and even got to drive the first Corrado in Cleverland but the best day I had was driving the red short wheel base wide arched Audi Quattro, still one of those drives I will never forget. It was a limited edition run for homologation into motor sport. Later I got to see an even rarer beast, the last Quattro built the 20 valve but in the old square shell. So rare a car that there was one demo car that came from Germany for a local guy to test drive before he bought one. At 60 grand you couldn’t blame him to try before you buy. The top sales man took the car home on the night and it went of his drive. The local police saw an Audi 80 driving around Eston with Quattro sport seats in it. They followed the car home and found the car in their garage half striped with every panel scratched and dented. The car was left in a corner of the garage at the dealership until it was put on a transporter and took back to the factory to be rebuilt

80's cars I've owned in order. Not proud of some of them to be honest, but I was young.

Austin Maxi HL (bought because the rear seats fold into the hatch to make a bed)
Vauxhall Chevette x 2
Ford Capri Calypso 2.8 (look alike)
VW MK2 Golf
Seat Ibiza Brio (System Porsche)
VW MK2 Jetta
BMW 316

I only drove one car in the 80s, but it was a Marcos, on a drag strip.

I can beat the FSO. Had a 120 Skoda! With only 2 gears. 3rd & 4th
It all started with a Mini Cooper S. (Proper one) But I rolled it up the side of Haweswater. Went through some real sheds while I saved up enough to reshell it. It was all a waste of time because when I finished the job I couldn't get insurance! :(
Worse than that I even ran a Kia Pride for a while. Only good thing is I learned a lot & made enough money selling it to get out all the money I spent doing it up! Blew most of my grant on that. Had to use the library a lot. :bom:

I'd keep quiet about that if I were you Gordon. Mind you I started off with a bright metallic green Allegro

In the 80s I had:

Austin Maxi 1750 - my first car given to me by my Dad, and broke down after 3 miles!
Ford Escort 1.3GL - unreliable, virtually every major part of engine replaced apart from block
Suzuki Swift GTI - fantastic car, 100 hp 1.3 engine in low weight car, embarassed many a BMW! and ultra reliable.

OK, I never actually past my test untill 1990 but have had a couple of 80s cars:

Fading lemon yellow Vauxhall Chevette 1.3 - 1st car. Had to carry a hammer with me to thump the starter motor. I did a top end overhaul.
W reg mark one Golf 1.1 - Great car. Great handling with tear drop alloys.
A reg mark II Golf 1.3 - also a great car, did it up to look like a GTI.
F reg Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6 - not bad.
