Lo all, thought I'd share my experience.

apart from the Enfield motoring pageant ( I was brought up in Enfield) I have never been to a classic or similar car show. NEC Motor Show was about as close as I had got.

Anyway today I went to Knebworth as its less than 20 miles from home and theres activities there to keep a 4 year old and a baby happy. I knew there wouldnt be any real Porsche representation as there is another well known motoring event on today somewhat further away.

On arrival I was impressed in that although there were a lot of cars in the car park it didnt feel crowded as the place is such a vast estate. When we wanted to break for a picnic we just wandered off a bit and found a lonely spot under an old oak tree and looked out accross the fields overlooking Knebworth House and the show it was lovely.

I did hope to find at least one or two 944 and thats exactly what I found (2). In the non Concours area I found a black A reg 944 which much to my suprise had a scabby bit of paintwork on one door right in the middle like it had been chipped off , the funny thing is the whole car was poished up in shiney black and the more I looked round it the more I got the idea ! It was ' authentic' , shiney clean well loved but authentic and true to its age and it want the only car like it. This was a revelation to me. The only other 944 I found was a guard red ( I think) G-reg S2. Now I say I think it was guards red as sadly I didnt get to meet the owner. I approached a lady who was picnicing behind the car and was absolutely charming. The conversation went as follows " is this your 944" , " no its my husbands he'll be back in a minute " ( yeah right he saw you coming luv) , " is it entered in any competition " , " no idea I didnt even want to be here " (said with a genuine smile not a dismissive one) , I laughed and said " you're not in to this car thing are you " , " nope not at all , he wants to sell it though but I dont want him to "
( im now confused) . Anyway I went back to the car a couple of times and clearly hubby was elsewhile engaged though I didnt actually see a beer tent anywhere !

One thing I did decide was that the 944 S2 looked far better to me and I would be very happy to be seen in an S2 or a turbo , also in general these folk who go to car shows with nothing more in mind than having a chat about ' Porsche' or whatever takes their fancy seemed pretty down to earth folk , including a chap I engaged in conversation re his Rolls Royce Shadow 1.

I prefer to see period alloys on 944s personally! Car meets / shows are always good fun though :D
