Is it just me or do a very large number of ' FSH ' cars turn out to be partial history , a quickie for 59 quid at ' autoworld' and maybe even a cat d for good measure.

I'm a friendly and well mannered chap but far from an idiot so why do I have to practically interrogate a seller to get the truth.

" Full service history , imprecably maintained " I.E overdue last service having not been touched for two . Service books with a signature and mileage filled in but no stamp , " have you got the bill for it then " er sadly no. where was the service it doesnt even say , er a main dealer cant remember which one the list goes on .

And is it so unreasonable when your 200 miles away to ask them to e mail you where and at what mileage each service was done so you know if the car is for you.

Yep I'm getting bored with this car hunting lark already stress , pant , puff !

On the good side I spent most of today reclaiming an old wooden garage I had full of junk and animal pens , I have chainsawed out the pens cleared the junk and theres now a 'porsche sized space ' in there

That's why when you do get an honest garage/sales place you stick to it. We've all been there and found the good guys to deal with. You already know where most of our loyalties lie Take our advice, look through the member discount list on the forum as these will be tried and trusted outlets for servicing and information. Put it in perspective, when I decided what I wanted from my Porsche i.e performance, features, colour combination etc it took a further 2 years for one to come up on the market that was right for what I wanted to do and I could trust would work satisfactory. You will always get faults with a classic car, we've all got lists, part of the appeal of ownership is keeping something special on the road and when you have a good service backup i.e like JMG, Strasse in Leeds etc etc who are as passionate about keeping your pride and joy on the road as you are then ownership is much easier.

Don't get put off by not finding something in a couple of weeks, these are not like euroboxes, readily available from every garage. People see the Porsche badge as an opportunity to make a few quid because most buy them with there heart instead of there head, then realise these cars are highly tuned performance engines and they try and recover there losses by selling on at an inflated price in relation to the vehicle's condition.

My advice, talk to the like of Jon Mitchell, Strasse, Porsch Mode, 911Virgin etc tell them what you want and they will keep an eye out. Also put regular post on the forum advertising what you want and someone may have what you're after.

We've all been there mate. Just keep doing the searching and maths.

Mine was relatively simply. I'd seen it at a local dodgy car dealer 2-3 miles from home, where it sat for 3 months. When I started looking I looked at some real mingers that I wouldn't have touched with yours. Went back to have a good look at this one & decided that it was what I wanted. It had genuine Porsche oil filter, Conti N rated tyres, immaculate interior etc. It was HPI clear done by the garage 4 months previously, but I smelt accident repair. True enough after buying it did an HPI check & found it was on the register as Cat C. Spoke to the previous owner & it was hit OSF head on by a car driven by an old lady wandering over the white line. It turns out that the insurance Co. had taken 18 months to notify any one that they had written it off. And it was too early to need the V5 marked. I'd priced it having guessed it was at least Cat D so got what I wanted at the right price.
