Post subject: | Dilemma on old 944 – Any advice? |
Looking for some suggestions with what to do with my old 944. I have had it for about 6 years (of which I got good motoring out of for 3), then due to the arrival of a new child the car has laid idle for about the last 3 years (cardinal sin, I know). The car was a good runner when I used it and I have never had the heart to sell it, but now I think is the time to do something with it. It has a few rust spots (as you expect on an 83 plate) but the engine and interior are in good nick. Getting it up and running again is an option but was not looking to do that for some years till I have some cash to burn (these examples are far and few between on the road). Alternatively I was thinking of selling the car as a donor car/restoration project (although with TLC should not need too much restoring). Any ideas what would you do in my position? |

On here you'll only get the comment of get it running & use it! ![]() To be honest early 944s are not worth a huge amount & as a non-runner even less. Do you really want it to go foe a few hundred pounds? |

I suppose I kind of set myself up - when the mid life does hit I am sure there will be good cars out there for the money. The only other question is can I really let it go for just a few hundred pounds? I could strip out the value bits (wheels, stereo etc....) and let it go, I suppose the longer I leave it the more of an eyesore it becomes. What is a good budget to restore do you think (I know very open ended question) and who are good guys to use in the NW London area (used Jazz Porsche once but they were a little expensive). id be honest with yourself; is it ever going to get going again while you have it? if not i'd sell it. look at ebay see where yours fits in and give a full and honest description plus as many photos as possible. |

Sad fact is it will be worth more if you break it. Cost of restoring it will be way more than it's worth. Since you can buy passable runners around 2K your only hope is to get fired with enthusiasm & get the thing running. Then with an MOT (Even a fail list.) it might actually sell! By then you will probably want to keep it anyway ![]() |

All, Thanks for your feedback (confirmed my options really). I know what needs to be done. Most appreciated and happy motoring. |
