Post subject:  PCGB at blenheim
anyone here go over the weekend, i didn't, but just been on pistonheads and seems to have varied reviews from worse than ragley to pretty good, comparisons made to TIPEC at gaydon mostly positive in our favour, the biggest gripe was the £29 entry to a field !! anyone go and can comment ?

I saw that comment about Ragley...

I was at Ragley and to be worse than that it had to be truly awful....as for £29...I would not have gone...its a car club meet, not the ballet lol.

I went along and shouldn't really comment as I got in for free.

Before I'm retrospectively arrested we have family pass for Blenheim, so I used that to park in public parking area. Took my Saab to ensure I wasn't directed towards the pcgb parking! I'm not a cheapskate but frankly thought £29 just for me a bit steep, especially as this did not include entry to the palace grounds (in fact when I left show to walk back into palace grounds I saw people from the event being charged full admission to Blenheim, despite pcgb having said that people attending show would be given discount on normal Blenheim charges. All very confusing).

I walked into the event and wasn't asked to pay by pcgb stewards (was this correct - later I saw signs in Blenheim saying separate admission applied for Porsche show?).

The show covered a huge area but was not actually very crowded with cars - on entry I couldn't even glimpse the 928s and the 944s were beyond them! Found them after a bit of a hike! This enormous area may have contributed to a certain lack of atmosphere.

There was some curious stuff going on in the arena (fly fishing demos?).

As I said at outset it may be invidious of me to pass comment when I hadn't even paid to bring my 928, but if I had - and paid the £29 - I would have felt it wasn't good value.

As I had a Blenheim pass, I could use it to take advantage of the much broader range of catering available to Palace visitors, but only available to pcgb visitors who paid a nother £10 each to 'leave' the PCGB area.

I went on the Saturday £30 admission, £50 pound in petrol visited some traders looked at some of the displays and that was it rubbish :(

After looking on Pistonheads I glad I missed this one, the first in many years. I feel sorry for Paul McNaulty trying to defend PCGB, Ive not noticed any other members putting their head above the parapet. Tipec seems to have got a good review out of this. Just goes to show, Small & Friendly, Like minded car enthusiasts, no bickering, that's Tipec. I proud to be a member of such a great club.

Nobody else from the PCGB would dare to comment adversely on the event..not after me being kicked out for similar comments...which is what the "Bretts Avengers" comments on that thread in PH are about lol :)

After 2 years truly awful events, I would not like to be in charge of next years PCGB event...I guess I would be a little lonely at the event :)


One good thing about it being so bad and so many comments about Tipecs being so good....

It had made up my mind to attend the next Tipec National event whether at Gaydon or anywhere else :) :)

I went on the Sunday with Mrs C and to be honest we had a good day out – although £29 is too much money. We met loads of friends that we really only see at these events – friends from up and down the country and even Paul and Myriam were there from Portugal (Central Region members who live out there)

On site organisation was really quite good. Register parking looked great and there was a Trade Village that was made up, generally speaking, of the same traders who were at Gaydon. Shame about the concours that was frankly a joke – but fair play to them for at least trying something different.

Event organisers seem to do no right! My view is if you want to watch cars racing then go to a track – most of us know Silverstone Classic is coming up and there are loads of Porsche race meets during the year. If you want to be entertained then go to the theatre or what ever. If you want a nice day out with like minded people you can’t go far wrong packing a picnic and heading off to a PCGB or TiPEC event

I do despair sometimes at what people expect from a show (the world mostly).

If you are going to an event that is based in a field, what you are going to get is Porsches in a field. Every thing has to be shipped in and it's very expensive on top of the rent you pay to the venue.

There's plenty of folk in the Club who would prefer us to go down that route, unfortunately it's just not an option.

A lot of people are referring it to the 911PW picnic, but that's £6 a person for porterloos in a field. We charged that for members at Gaydon with all the entertainments lobbed in.

I'm sure PC and PK would be the first to agree, it doesn't matter what you do and how great it is. You will never please some people. I hope they keep organising events because as Porsche owners we should pitch up, if we don't there won't be any Porsche only shows. What would we moan about then? :)

If Brett's coming North We'll get the flags out :lol:

However I was totally shocked to see that the £29 didn't get you in the Palace!!
Had it done so then like Gaydon the entry fee alone was a worthwhile and discounted cost to the normal cost.. Blenheim is £17.50pp so £29(per car) seemed like a good price for a club event... however £29 to stand in a field near to a Palace I do think is another thing. I'm sure we could all agree had it had entry then the event would have been possibly perceived totally differently

There will always be moaners especially on PH where that is the general theme it seems at the moment??!
I personally don't want my entry monies spent on kids entertainment but that's only because I have no kids to take and would like to see other things, I'm not into the kids running around the cars either!!! However I am aware that all clubs are a broader church than just my interests ( although I think the first club to have a Spearmint Rhino on site will get the glory :bounce: )

Had I gone then I'd of been a worker and gained entry, so I would have probably enjoyed myself meeting up with friends from across the UK, just like I do at other shows- that cost a lot less!!

Rob and I went, but only took 1 car due to the cost of entry per car. Those of you that know us will find that really odd as we bring both Porsches to events 95% of the time (regardless of the mileage usually). We only really went because it was the 964 anniversary and I think Rob was disappointed that there was nothing made of this (he picked up some nicely designed t-shirts though).

We expected to see a Panamera (it was at Festival of Speed), but it wasn't there.

Luckily we don't have any kids, so weren't impacted by the lack of activities.

The 'demos' in the arena were a little odd, I enjoyed the birds of prey but didn't hang around to watch the fly fishing thing. I would have like to go to the Palace, but wasn't going to pay even more for to get in.

The Porsche display parking was very spread out and not very close to the Palace itself. Perhaps it looked worse because less people came through the gate on Saturday?

For value for money and atmosphere, I firmly believe that TIPEC was the best event this year. I think that perhaps a lot of people were going to bash PCGB for this event regardless of how the day actually panned out, it seems to be fashionable at the moment!

There was a Panamera 4S at the Festival but it looked a bit out of place.

If he organises a show as superb as Gaydon, then only charges £6 to get in, who can compete with that?

The only solution is to charge at least £50 to get into Gaydon next year, then £29 will look cheap to park your car in a field and everyone will be happy. :wink:

I do get a bit of help :wink: Next year might be £7 for members :shock:
