Has anyone else seen this story - Brewers are suggesting the price of a pint could rise from the average £2.20 to £4.00 per pint in 2008

Apparently its because of the rising cost of metal beer kegs and also the growing cost of barley & hops as more and more land is being turned over to the production of bio-fuels.

Wonder if it will start the home brewing craze again?

I know you have premises, heat/light and staff costs to think about but how come beer in a pub is £2.20 a pint whereas you can buy a box of 20 500ml cans in a supermarket for a tenner. Yes I know 500ml is a bit less than a pint :D

I haven't read this report Paul B. I can see the brewery's point when it comes to the metal kegs/casks. These get stolen and smelted down for their metal.
As for your point Paul S, they (the brewers) don't really make much proffit on a keg/cask of beer. It's offset buy the wines, spirits, alcopops etc.
