I have just received this in an email.....

For all those drivers who have a photo driving licence, I would like to draw your attention to
the fact that these types of licences expire after 10 years of issue, even though drivers are
licensed to drive until the age of 70years. It is now a decade after these licences were first
issued and therefore some will be nearing the expiry date. Please note that if you do not
renew your licence (a cost of £17.50) then you could be faced with a £1,000 fine.

I have never used the photo part and I dont think £17.50 plus a new photo makesme drive better but its a damned sight cheaper than £100.00 fine ..and they know where you should be living..

Phil

A slight change of address ie Rd. instead of road will save you the cost for a new paper licence.....

Evening all,

Really. Does this work? Sounds to good to be true.

I had the address on mine changed back in December but it will still expire next year.

The few times I've hired it's always been in conjunction with my passport so never had any issue. The sceptics looked a bit funny at it in security last Sept while I was over there though!

You can't drive abroad with a green one. Not legal anymore. Or I would still have mine.

They accepted it in the USA in September, the Hertz guy barely blinked.
And according to their website it's OK as well!

Yup, I only changed mine end of last year, cos I had changed address (twice) and was getting grief on the old one here, sometimes from the hire companies, strangely no problem abroad with the hire co's or even with the police. I do think though that there are pressures being applied to force us to get them changed.
