Hi All,

My name’s David Bonsall, I’m a professional close up magician (http://www.fingertipmiracles.co.uk) and Porsche owner. I’m looking for a few old Porsche keys to use as props in my close up act. I own a Cayman and the key I have is the new triangular silver key. This is no good for what I want, I’m after the slightly older style black key. I have one, kindly given to me by the Porsche dealership in Bournemouth, where I purchased my Cayman, but I’m after a few more.

Does anyone on here have any recommendations of where I might get hold of some. I've sent emails to all the Porsche Dealerships, but they don't have them. I've tried a few specialists, but to no avail..

Any advice or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

David Bonsall

Hi David & Welcome

You'll be better off trying around the breakers, do they need to work?
I'd try Porschapart, Douglas Valley, Elliot on here also is a breaker.

People who tend to want old car keys are car thieves.

No dealer should give away old keys.

If you want some old style keys then buy some blanks

Hi again all,

Thanks for your advice, I have tried Porschapart, I emailed them yesterday and are waiting for them to get back to me. I don't need the keys to work. I will take the electrics out, hollow out the space and 'gimmick' it for use in my show.

I'm happy to pay for new blanks if I can find a source for them.

I'd have to be a pretty lucky thief if I was to get a random key from somebody and hope to find the matching car!!

Regards

Dave

That is a bit strong Dave!
A key these days is far more than a strip of metal, the electronics within are very complex & wouldn't help someone to nick a car anyway.
Also coming on a Porsche forum in order to get keys to nick cars would not be the best way to do it.

I've had keys & locks from breakers in order to rebuild locks with in the past, never had or been told an issue.

Jim I am not suggesting that that is what he wants them for, but its common unusual for it to happen, old keys don't have any chips in them. Don't forget that the chip only prevents you from driving off in the car.

I used to work with kids who were excluded from school and at least one of them would steal car keys and boasted how he went around collecting them and trying to get into any car that he saw. All our cars were in a secure workshop overnight but even then I had to lock the keys away when we were not working on the cars.

I have bought and sold locks with keys, but to ask dealers for any old keys is a bit different. Any dealer that I have worked in would never give old keys to anyone. We had to destroy old keys.

I once found a car outside where I lived that had an old key in the ignition, it was a neighbours car that had been opened and then they tried to start it with a key, luckily they had only managed to move the car a few yards, down hill
