Which trolley jack?

Post subject:  Which trolley jack?
Need a new one as the old one has expired now which was a cheapie.

Needs to be a low entry (sub 100mm) to get under the 911.

Halfords only do cheap ones so the discount card option is out there :(

Like the look of the clarke one:

and it can be had on ebay for about £60

This one is better and goes higher though:

and I have seen in costco for £60 +VAT.

We unfortunately don't have costco cards anymore so if anyone in TV area is willing to purchase this for me there is a pint waiting.

My first Halfords TJ lasted around 18 years, so I bought another, the current one is OK. I also got involved with the Lotus group buy on an aluminium race jack which is OK, but heavier than the halfords one & quite wide at the front which fouls the wing on the 944.
They're all made in China so the Machine Mart one may very well come from the same factory as the Halfrauds one.

None of the halfords ones are low enough, I went there earlier 140mm is the lowest unfortunately.

bought ours(heavy duty one) from Machinemart and its excellent, it gets a lot of use and seems to cope well with everything. even the Cayenne.

couldn't for the life of me tell you what make/type it is though. but it went under the slantnose & race spec 914 both of which were pretty low.

hi the clake one at m'mart is good and it has a good finsh and doe's not look cheap

if you want to have a look and a feel argos extra stock that jack £89.99 and you you take it back within 16 days if its no good and buy it cheaper off ebay :lol:

if you want a really good one , have a look at the Michelin light weight jack , about £ 145 from various sources .

I've seen those and whilst they look the part, unfortunately a tad out of my budget :oops:

I'm an occasional mechanic who likes to throw his tools around the garage so nothing expensive allowed :D

those michelin jacks are crap!
they might be light and low entry but... they fall apart and it feels like your lifting the car by hand with every pump of the jack.

I've got one of the garage style Sealey ones which I've had for years. It's pretty heavy, but is surprisingly low and fits under the 968 without any problems.

Don't get the type with a roller, unless the floor is perfectly smooth.

Clark stuff I would not touch with a barge pole, we used to have 2 at place I worked and they both failed within months (only light use) a lift leaked within 12 months after being used 6 times, tyre changer 9 months.

My snap on trolley jack as lasted 20 years so far and thats after being used an rally's for 8 years

How low will they go and what's the cost? My 996 has the GT3 Aero kit on it and is quite low all round. I think listening to the replies, it may not pay in the long run to buy a real cheap one.

clarke stuff has got alot better over the years. and is a nice light jack, ok it is not a snap on but wot is the cost of a snap on !!!!!
snap on is ok if you use it every day as a job and i have got snap on but at home you don't need snap as the cost is over the top.
