So, a previous owner of my newly acquired 993 decided that the worst thing in the World was having to listen to the roar of an AirCooled Flat Six Engine whilst they tried to listen to Celine Dion's Greatest Hits album [presumably]. So, said owner removed the carpet, stuck a Tonne [no exaggeration] of Sound Proofing Tape on the chassis of this Beauty. I won't mention the speakers whose cones are too deep for the shelf. Oh, except I just did. Anyways, they then decided that they wanted Recording Studio like sound deadening so stuck an Abbey Road's worth of Foam to the Tape. And then put the carpet back. No wonder the cabin felt smaller. So.. What I'd really like help with is a way to remove the Tape.. It's the horrible black-sticky-backed foil type tape/sheets.. And besides the obvious "Elbow Grease" solution, which will be employed in any event, is there a "Scrape most of it off with a Wooden Spatula and then use this..~" solution..? ![]() |

Have been doing some Googling on the matter this afternoon [whilst making it look like I'm actually doing some work] and apparently using a CO2 Fire Extinguisher [with plenty of ventilation of course] provides a solution. It freezes the Tar-like backing, allowing it to be "chipped" away using a plastic spatula and hammer etc. >> http://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx- ... re-182677/ Perhaps use this once the majority of the soundproofing / tar has been chipped away..? >> http://www.clean4less.co.uk/tar-and-glu ... er-5l.html |

As I say, good luck........................I don't envy you!! Did you have any luck with finding some wheels? My faves are cup 1's but like that rocking horse stuff, and heaps of dough too! Haven't checked they fit, but I think so. The Fuchs copies look good too in the right colour, particularly if you have lowered suspension. |

That BBS / Speedline / Veloce look has been done to death I think.. ![]() The 993 will get dropped a bit, courtesy of some Bilsteins.. I think I'm headed for more of a CS look, than an RS one.. ![]() FYI, and if you want to follow the Build.. http://www.kingroon.blog/ |

I often wonder what people are thinking when they make alterations like this, don't know what state their mind is in. I use a fair amount of degreasing solvents and a specific version called "Nova Clean" which seems to do the job very well. Frustratingly that black tape backing, depending on what brand, can be an absolute nightmare to get off. Heat can also be very helpful. Is the adhesive still tacky or has it dried and gone crisp? |

As Big Tomm said in previous post get some heat on it with a hot air gun or hair drier & use a sovent based product on it. Tardis by autosmart should work or thinners/white spirit. I would spray the solvent on & let it soak in for a few mins then use a scraper combined with a rag soaked in whatever solvent you are using. Just be careful how much you are using in that enclosed space & dont spend to long in there or you will be high on the fumes!! |

Chris H1 wrote: ..or you will be high on the fumes!! I've had worse Nights in.. ![]() So.. I got home last night, and had this issue playing on my mind, so threw down some Cheese to keep me going and attacked the 993.. With great Success as it turns out..! The saddest part of the work is realising the Carpet is shot, rotten in places and delaminated [?] all over.. BUT.. The Positive is that the Sound Proofing came away relatively easily [although I have countless cuts and nicks on my hands this morning from the aggressive foil].. So pleased with my efforts though, and even better that the Car beneath the Crime is unaffected and undamaged.. ![]()

I think that is what is known as ICE! I have loads of it in various places around my house that I removed from my boy racer car when I sold it 10 years ago and haven't had a car to put it all in since. My 944 isn't designed for 5 1/4" components and 2x10" subs in a box. ![]() |

I hope I never see the stuff ever again.. ![]() Picked up some Solvent based Cleaner to take the Carpet Backing and Glue off; with Gloves since the Sound Proofing Foil sliced my skin like Butter..
