Post subject: | Beware of Classic Car insurance and NCBs |
Just a word of warning in case anyone is not aware of this. I have had a Classic Car insurance (agreed valuation) for my 964 Targa with an independent broker for 3 years now. When I joined them, I sent them a proof of 13 years No Claim Bonus (NCBs) from my previous insurer. Due to change of circumstances, I now need to move back on to a standard insurance, so I phoned them to ask for a letter confirming my NCBs, and they told me that Classic Car insurance does not support NCBs. And because the last confirmation letter I had was from 3 years ago, I have now lost my No claims Bonus... 16 years worth of no claims down the drain. I am starting again with 0 NCBs. So - as they say, buyer beware. Make sure you know what the situation is when you get a Classic Car insurance. At least go into it with your eyes open. PS. In the interest of fairness, there is at least one broker who will "save" your NCBs for you, even if you get a Classic Car insurance with them. Unfortunately, it was not the one I used... seg |

This also happened to me around 3 years ago. The insurance company assured me that my NCB would be kept 'on file' Needless to say I was furious when they later told me that classic car insurance should only run alongside a standard insurance policy, and that my NCB was now gone. ![]() |

I had a friend who had this happen to them. I ve always had a separate insurance policies ands it's why I keep a cheap Road legal 1.3 fiesta insured so I don't loose my 9 years ncb. When I first started using classic insurance I started afresh. But having said that with Lancaster insurance I now have 2 years ncb on my classic policy which I've had for 3 years now. |

i am not sure a piece of paper saying you have NCB makes a huge difference. it's all about who wants your business whether you have made a claim or not, it's all about risk. |

With computers nowadays, I would have thought NCB could be recorded with no need for paperwork |

hmmmm, thought if you were using a classic policy you had to have a daily drive as well, therefore NCB would be applied to that? company car? get a certificate from their insurer. Whenever I have had a classic policy, I have been asked about my daily drive. |

Hi ![]() I have a classic policy with Adrian Flux with my Nitrous system on it (for road use) and i have NCB... And its my daily driver... ![]() I suspect it depends on which company you use... I have no choice as AF is the only company that will insure my Nitrous for road use, but only if its a Wizards of Nos system... they have a special arrangement... it does not apply to US systems though. My classic policy has an "ageed value" which i set a few years ago, next year I will be increasing it by 30% as 928s have increased in value fairly fast recently... All the best Brett ![]() |
