for those wondering....and i mean really pondering wether i can do a job or not...the proof is in the pudding...

the merc renovation job i'm doing would have needed a wing because it was totally gone on the wheel arch but i rolled up my sleeves grabbed a sheet of metal and started to cut and form a new piece..











paint arrives tomorrow so i'll get some color on it

with some luck i'll have paint on it tomorrow but anything could happen tomorrow so i may not get chance? i have a bonnet to sort out on it too before the color hits but that wont take long.

saz has worked hard on this car too bringing it back from looking like an unwanted pile of scrap to a beautiful looking car inside and out. so big props to her and big wages too

so i checked again and the paint was in the box with the primer

To be very honest I'd be very worried about spraying such large horizontal surfaces like a bonnet in a dusty garage, but I appreciate it's an old car and looks infinitely better than it did with a holey wing

ahh the crap in the paint? heater gave up on the final coat of clear so when i got it goin again a boat load of crap blew out of the heater. anyway it'l flat and buff out

".... it'll buff out" - be careful with those words young man. That's what I said to the wife about the cellulite. Anyway, after spending a week at Church singing soprano in the choir, I'm okay now everything has dropped back into place!

Obviously I made that up to make you laugh. For the record my wife is very beautiful and does not have cellulite, but the neighbour's wife.....

I did my last last merc with chrome wheel arches but want to keep the wheel arches original in a 260E.

HOW DO YOU BLEND IN THE PAINTWORK - THE MASKING STRIPS LEAVE A LINE. WHAT DO YOU USE ?

The easiest way is to paint to a panel line, either physical such as the edge of a wing or a swage line, matching beyond that can be a real pain, especially with colours that fade on older cars. Red is a particular PITA as is Yellow.

Don't believe me? There was a recent thread on PH where the guy was less than complimentary about his Mrs. Unfortunately she logged on..... I believe he leaves casualty shortly

its a very fine art blending the paint, basically you paint the effected area untill its the right depth colour and fine dust across the area into the panel then clear coat the panel a few inches over the panted area so it doesn't show on buffing. but its always better to clear coat the full panel.
