Interesting this, as it seems the colour should be defined by its nationality if motorsport is the basis for the decision.

The Gordon Bennett Cup 1900-1905 allocated colours to country of origin - Blue to France, Yellow to Belgium, White to Germany and Red to the USA, UK chose green (aka BRG) in 1905 as red white and blue were already gone. Italy got red when USA changed to blue with 2 white stripes or white with 2 blue stripes.

German cars later turned silver because aircraft aluminium was used in manufacture - and now either white or silver are the national racing colours (should always have red numbers though).

Thinking back, a lot of Porsche works cars have had a white base/background colour - so I am going to say white is the colour (and the fact my 944 is white has nothing to do with it)

I will now shut up and let others disagree with me because I am really not sure there is a definitive answer to this question.

I would also go with white
For similar reasons

Although many people who are similar age to me may say Red as it was The colour in the second half of the 80's

Yes, my perception on colour for the Porsche would be that of white too.

Interesting to read the threads posted. Thanks :)

I get the White idea as original German racing colour, but by the time Porsches were trouncing competition in Panamericana and Targa - not to mention James Dean's 550 Spyder - they were famously silver so I'm going for that! Not really a road car colour, but it's theone that for me is inextricably Porsche

All the above makes sense to us petrolheads, but I think for Joe Public the quintessential Porsche is a Guards Red ’80s 911 with a big whaletail spoiler. If I was playing Pictionary and had to draw a Porsche, I’d reach for the red felt-tip.

Silver for old porsches 356, 550 spyder, then change to white for racing era, then red for 80's 911...944 yuppie era..
so a few really.. not so much a colour with a Porsche but the model.....911.
