I had some custom belts made up by these guys, for not a lot of money. They did a great job & would use again. http://www.quickfitsbs.com/ |

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, in comparison with the cost of the car ( my 17 year old daughters car ), their charges are too high. Any other sources known. ? |

God bless 'em, but their website is horribly complicated, so I did not even try to start doing the sums. It 'twas enough for me to read in the Bentley Drivers Club forum ( I run a Continental GTC as well as my 996 Cab ) that a set of front only belts was over £500 plus fitting plus VAT. I next then emailed them asking them to justify their prices, only to be told that most of the cars they supply belts for are valued at around £100 k. Fair 'enuff, I told meself !.......and if I ever wanted red belts in my GTC they'd be the first people I contacted. |

I had tan coloured belts on the TR7V8, SBS made them & they were around £130 all in. This was me supplying the reels & old belts. This was 2004 so I expect the price will have gone up a bit but not that much. |

Longer ago than I care to admit, one morning I was in a taxi going through Berkeley Square and went past a Jaguar main dealership. In the showroom window was a stunningly beautiful brand new "S" Type Jaguar painted Golden Sand. Its interior was a gorgeous caramel coloured Connolly leather and the carpets were coffee coloured Wilton. In a of moment of extravagant madness, I wrote out a cheque on the understanding that I could drive that car away when I returned after lunch. I also demanded that they replace the horrible black seat belts. I was sitting in the bar looking at the menu when the Jaguar sales manager arrived to show me three or four samples of seat belt webbing. I chose a nice creamy beige colour. At about four 0/clock ( it was a long lunch !) he returned to collect me. In the interim the car had been prepared, the belts made up and fitted. I drove the car home. This was 1967. Imagine getting that sort of service now ! Five years later and at the Le Man 24 Hour Race, I swapped it for a nice red 365 convertible from a pretty Dutch girl. |

I bought for £150 a 1966 Golden Sand 3.8 S-Type in my buying & selling cars days. It had the cylinder head in bits in the boot as someone had not put antifreeze in & the block had cracked. We towed it back from Lambourn Berkshire using my mates company Mk5 Cortina. Other than the cracked block it was n reasonable nick, but I never had the cash or time to sort it. It got towed around to our various storage places & I ended up swapping it for the Alfa Nord 2l engine & box to put in my Ford Pop Hillclimber. |

Mine, too, was a 3.8 . It went like a rocket. Independent rear suspension , it could out handle most everything else in its day. I seem to recall it had overdrive as well, but I might be wrong. |

What car are you wanting to fit them into? In the past I have changed the belts in my then current car with others from another make. |

Thanks, guys, but a pal of mine who works in Formula One has recommended Rimmer Bros , who has sorted me out. Incidentally, the belts are wanted for a Ford Anglia 105E that my seventeen year old daughter has just bought. The car is painted battleship grey with a two tone grey interior. It is as ugly as a box of frogs, but she ( silly girl ! ) says it reminds her of her Grandpa's De Soto Firely ( maybe the smell -all that horrid plastic and vinyl, but nothing else, that's for sure ! ) She's obviously inherited her Mums imagination as well as my blond, blue eyed good looks. |
