Post subject:  Learn to drive that car!!

My good lady bought me a one day high performance driving course for Christmas.

Well, did it today and what a fantastic day, as a 30 year veteran of doing 30k miles a year, with a good number of them fairly quick I thought I knew how to drive quickly on the roads

Oh no I didn't. I learnt so much in one day road position, throttle balance and so much more, I now need a get out a practice more.... Have gained confidence, safe speed and confirmed what a bloody great car my 996 is when it's under power round the twisty bits. :bom:

People if you haven't got a significant other to treat you, then put your hands in your pocket and treat yourself :bounce:

My tutor for the day was John Cave of Drivetrain go on give him a call and surprise yourself..

Don't want to overdo the advertising bit for someone else but if you want more details and contact numbers etc. feel free to pm me.

Good stuff. Got enough material for an All Torque article?

Glad you had a good day, I must book another later this year.

I am assuming that while his tuition is still great, his jokes are probably still poor :-)

There are plenty of other write ups online about John's tuition. Just picked one at random

He's moved on from Green Flash now!

Lack of availability in size 15 I think

Glad you had a good day out, I think I've done 3 now looking forward to my next bit of learning!

Bury it, GLF, Power!

Edited to add, I clearly need a new lesson as I did something yesterday that John hadn't got around to teaching me yet.

Proceeding down a NSL A class road with a slight curve to the left making substantial progress and eventually began to approach an HGV with a car tucked in behind it travelling at significantly lower speed than me. I moved over the crown of the road to my right to take a view around them to see if I could proceed but there was a solid line hatched area ahead so it wasn't on. Just at this moment I was overtaken by a 2006 diesel Ford Galaxy who went around the car and HGV in front of me on the offside of the hatchings past a side road!

I must admit, I wasn't expecting something to be in that position when I moved to my viewing position so need to take a better look next time! Poor observation!

Paul, sounds like the driver of the Galaxy was going at a high speed and therefore may have initially been hidden from your rear view mirror by the road topography. :?:
In any case it hardly sounds like an approved textbook manoeuvre by the Ford pilot

Tony you're quite right the Bend would have concealed him slightly but it's an eye opener as we were both traveling a bit, him well into 5 score and 10!

The galaxy driver went on over the next 20 miles or so doing suicide overtakes up the crocodile we came up behind.

Anyway nicked the thread a bit, apologies.
