Attachment: P1.JPEG Luxury motoring - 19th century style This luxury vehicle has been unearthed 116 years after it was built. At first glance this vehicle may resemble an old horse-drawn carriage, but it's actually The world's very first Porsche (article by Jayne Cherrington-Cook) The original and unrestored 'Egger-Lohner electric vehicle, C.2 Phaeton model' - known as the P1 for short - was originally built in 1898 by Ferdinand Porsche himself. Left untouched in a warehouse since 1902, this historical prototype is currently being displayed at the Porsche museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Germany. Ferdinand Porsche made sure that he would take credit for the vehicle's design in a most unusual manner by engraving “P1” (P for Porsche, number 1) onto all of the key components. Attachment: the-first-porsche-engine-136387147275317801.jpg This new electric vehicle was regulated via a 12-speed controller, including six forward gears, two reverse gears and four braking gears. However with an electric motor installed transversely between the front wheels and steered rear wheels, this version was still far from being ready for series production. |
