Well, as you know we're Euro Tour veterans now having been all over Europe with the two 911's and a tent. Kerry, Ben (12), James (9), myself and Maggie our Spaniel are taking the Panamera on it's maiden voyage, beginning Friday week.

Other than the journey down, this year is a little different from the usual tours you see people do as we've done most of the conventional stuff people go for.

Day 1 is down to Stuttgart and a night in the Holiday Inn to visit the Porsche museum, specifically 50 years of the 911. Kerry is not too keen on this bit and is taking the dog on a run around one of the big woodland parks there while we do it.

Image

Stuttgart has required application of a low emissions sticker in the windscreen for which we paid around 12 euros.

Day 2 wander around the museum then down through Switzerland where a vignette is required (1 year road tax) for around 30 euros.

We're heading over Grimsel Pass

Image

Furka Pass

Image

Image

and finally the St Gotthard Pass rather than going through the long tunnel like we did last time

Image

this includes Devil's Bridge

Image

That night we arrive in Como, Italy ready for a nice restaurant on the waterside and a wander at the lake the following day:

Image

Then it's down to Savona the Italian port to catch the Ferry to Calvi, Corsica day 4 and heading around the mountain to Porto, Ota for 14 days camping.

Image

Porto is a busy little marina town

Image

with beaches and mountains all in one little area!

The journey home, via a hotel near Chambery will take us 2 days.

Updates when we return, hope you enjoy and it inspires you to do similar!

Scenery looks beautiful and awe inspiring.

Love the look of the Devils Bridge. Don't suppose many current engineers would get that to support itself?

Very good itinerary, we'll be following your tyre tracks on some of those passes next month. :bounce:

For those doing euro trips this year, watch out, the Gendarmerie are known for targeting British drivers and they're pretty hostile to boot.

We don't really go too much over the limit (keep around 90mph generally) any more but if you really want to risk it their favourite hiding places are exits from the toilet stops, I always slow down a bit and try and have a good look in there as passing. Keep to lower limits for sure like the 90 and 110 especially when raining (lower limit), look out for gendarmerie signs as they are near their base and in approaching toll booths (normally well signed in advance). There are several little hideaway laybys behind bridge abutments and over the brows of hills too they like to sit in.

We've fallen foul of this a few times and always carry a decent amount of cash with us just in case (they are not honest to your speed either) as the trip we had to make to the ATM one year thanks to Kerry's speeding cost us a couple of hours :D

Same really applies to Belgium and where they have limits on Autobahns too. You'll find many more on the road police with hairdryers all over Europe than over here.

ImageA few from today and yesterday!

In como tonight been over grimsel, furka and gotthard passes. Furka is nearly 2500m altitude and very narrow at the top, we were scared! Precious little edge protection and suicide bikers! Vertigo :D

Got a bit too close to making Ben sick in the back of my car yesterday on the Corsican twisties, a relentless 80k of left, right, up and down!

Some pics from our first day on corsica on Monday.

Sick stop :D

Image

The roads here are exceptionally narrow and have relentless left rights but are really exciting with the views and drop offs!

The Panamera takes a lot of room up, the combination of length and width makes it so that you need to be totally sure you know the car but if you do it's a lovely thing to drive here with the torque and paddle shift helps when you can keep both hands on the wheel when 'making progress'.

Looks like young Jimmy has been making progress around the campsite too!

Good photo's, nasty Daddy making Ben ill :)

We should run a sweep on the shade of green Haley will go on the first day on the twisty stuff. She's usually ok after that, too worried about flying off the edge to feel sick :)
