I was stuck for present for my son's 15th birthday present in September. I remembered that I had seen a first drive experience being advertised for Rockingham raceway in Corby. As it is not far from where he lives I bought him a voucher (valid for 12 months), we used it about 2 weeks ago. First drive is just what it says, 3 teenagers are loaded into a Mini together with an instructor and disappear around the car park roads for two hours or so. Each gets turns at driving, learning basic clutch control, turns etc. On completion they get an assessment and if they have reached an acceptable level get an invite for second drive (parallel park, reversing, hill start and a lap of the track where they reach 70/80 mph). He really enjoyed his day and the Christmas present second drive voucher has been requested.

To finish his day I bought him a couple of laps in a Lotus Elise driven by one of the instructors. Certainly made him smile.
