I remember the first house my wife and I bought, my wife got new carpets and they were thicker than the old ones and the door was stiff to open and close. I decided to take quarter of an inch off the bottom, so took the door off and measures 5 times, made the cut and put the door back on. After noticing that the door was still stiff, my wife noticed a quarter inch gap at the top of the door.

Then it was clearly the wife's fault ... :D

Been there, done that but my wife was at work so I took another quarter inch off before she came home and noticed the half inch gap - ended up with a new door - but never repeated the mistake since. Experience can be an expensive teacher!

Have a laugh at my expense - should really have been out in the car!

Didn't measure at all (well it was about a spade and a halve's depth) :- Just cut once, straight through a 50mm diameter tree root unfortunately a plastic gas pipe was directly beneath it sniff sniff :bounce: oh s..t can you smell GAS
Just paid the £400 + bill for emergency call out and repairs.
Annoying thing is there were 12 trees in the hedge and I started at the wrong end, the other end had Gas warning plastic strips buried at a spades depth :x .
