i thought i would share this, i couldn't post in the car section its not quite a porsche but i have set about doing the valve stem seals on my car, some of you might think porsche are a nightmare to work on at times, So i thought it fitting to put you're minds at ease so you can sit back and realise they are quite simple in comparison...

this is mitsubishi at their finest...way of making things complicated!!!...







its taken a day to get this far and thats working almost non stop, but i'm hoping to have it together come friday night.
i have just completed re-seating the valves in the front head, now i have to do it all again on the rear head. its all done by hand too like it was in the old days

Well its the wrong way round for a start should point North South rather than East West
Thats the reason modern cars can generate such big bill because of access issues.

What's the capacity of that?

PS Their is a link to Porsche actually. Every 944 & 968 that Porsche built they had to pay a royalty to Mitsuibishi for the balancer shaft patents. Mitsui developed & patented the Lanchester idea & anone who uses them has to cough up dollars to them!

anyway its a 2997cc twin turbo with ex leaky valve stem seals... just ported and polished the heads while i got them off......might as well its rainin so wouldn't want to be grobbling about in that weather lol.

It's also in the wrong place. It should be at the rear where all proper cars have their engines.......... (stands well back and waits for a flaming)

i always wanted to re-route the engine to the back, weld the VCU and drive the rears off the front drive of the gearbox.... would save some weight and totally unbalance the car haha...oh well glad i didn't

hit a hickup!

there was a broke stud in the rear turbo suprise suprise.....easy enough super heat the surrounding area and spin it out!....no dice it budges 1/8" at a time on white hot... this could take a while!

just waitin for my tea now so i got power to turn the grips.

i hate hickups! i could have had it half built by now

ahh can't be bothered now leave it till tomorrow, woke up at 3 this morn in a mean sweat, got bored after a hour and went out to strip the other head of it valves....just tired now.

looks pretty busy in that engine bay, agree it should be north/south and would make access a tad easier by the look of things

they really aren't that bad to work on, altho i must admit its goto be easier with disfigured hands at times especially the rear turbo and mainfold...speaking of which i have a rear manifold change on one on monday morning which won't be easy!

at least you've had a bit of practice on yours

haha i have had plenty of practice on these mate, this would be the 5th rear manifold swap and 10th rear turbo remove.

its the front one thats the hardest believe it or not.

need s few small hoses. before i continue... i torqued the heads down 92lbs/ft and 90º @ 92lbs/ft have to build it all up fill it with water (put oil in already ) run it on tick over till the fans kick in, let it cool strip it back to gain access to the head bolts and tighten a further 90º @ 92 lbs/ft ..... then i can finish and drive it

Good effort, makes my 8v head-job look like a walk in the park well done

Ive always been a fan of the GTO and that sentance is exactly why I never bought one.
