Well guys, for the first time since I left school well over 50 years ago I am spannerless! Not only that but socketset less, compressor less, powerwasher less and a good few other items less as well. last night my big shed where I keep my cars was targeted by thieves who were apparently after some of my cars and when that didn't succeed took what they could. Quite a professional job according to the way the padlock was drilled and sprung after their bolt cutters fails to make any serious impression. The first 2 cars in the shed are a Porsche 924 and MGB GT and they were and are totally and comprehensively immobilised when not in use. Both bonnets of those cars had been opened and both glove boxes as well. obviously looking for keys...No Chance! My other cars had not been touched at all. Anyway it seems that even in the south of Ireland near Macroom in County Cork we are no longer safe from these predators. I'm now about 900 euro down plus another couple of hundred spent on extending my video surveillance and recording equipment today I'm not looking for sympathy guys but just to warn you that no one's safe, even in a peaceful place like this. Regards. Tony |

It's a gut wrenching feeling, I had all my tools stolen when I worked at a steam boiler company. In those days an inch drive socket set was quite a pretty penny. I've never had a full set since, I away buy cheap throwaway stuff these days and have never felt safe. I moved off the tools soon after. ![]() |

Thanks for the comments guys, appreciated. I must give the cops their due on this occasion, a Garda was here withing 15 minutes of my ringing in and a scene of crimes officer from another station came this afternoon to see if he could do anything, obviously not as no prints or anything else left. However the break in 'should' be reported in national press here tomorrow and something may come of that...probably a small paragraph at the bottom of page 17 knowing my luck at present ![]() Tony |

Only the other week I had the back doors of my van cut open, finding nothing in the van they then proceeded to cut the fleshy laid roof lining off of my garage. They then unscrewed and removed the 8 x 4 decking and kicked through the ceiling!! Only last night after a nasty noise from the rear of my van did I discover that they had nicked my spare wheel ![]() Police weren't much help, they had an idea who had done it but they were too busy... apart from that they will have moved on in a week or so.. ![]() Too busy manning the Scamera van at 6.59 on a Saturday morning ![]() |

Oh dear bugger, ive become rather tetchy of late as more and more classic VWs are getting stolen too! As mine are occasional use cars, mine sit with out a selection of choice parts until I decide to use them. Maybe I should turn my attention to locking stuff down in the garage to! |

Well theres been a bit of progress in as much that the cops have eliminated a fairly local yobbo that everyone was pointing the finger at....seems he was a 'guest' in the nick that night. However I was told this afternoon that they have a lead to a guy who did some work for me a few weeks ago and apparently 'is known' to them and is absent from his usual places for the past 3 days. Anyway I'm been checking out the marts today and tomorrow there are 3 boot fairs quite near Cork city so thats where I'll be, with the sort of luck I'm having it'll probabaly rain all day. Never mind Eh? Tony |

Scumbags. At least they didn't get the cars although you are obviously down a great deal of money for the tools etc. If it's anything like around here the kit will turn up at a car boot in about 4 to 6 weeks time once everyone (apart from you) has forgotton about the robbery and it will be easier to offload the kit. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks.... |

Sorry to hear the bad news... Hope at least the insurance will cover it... I had two garages broken into about 4 weeks ago. Thankfully they never touched the cars, but took an array of tools that I had collected since dot, and some tools that grandfathers had made back in the day! golf clubs, bikes, jacks, and even two new tyres for the 944... The police were good, and found the golf clubs a day later in the bushes, but nothing else as yet... To be fair they were a bit old! Anyway I hope they get closer to tracking down yer man. I recently read on a ford forum, that someone had metal framed windows and was so fed up with repeated break ins that they wired the window up to the mains and left it open in the hope they would come back lol Not adviseable, as you could end up in HMP running your own stretch for manslaughter!! P.s. I recently was in Enniscorthy & Kilkenny visiting relatives for the 1st time in 15 years. The place has changed a great deal for the worst and seems to be resembling the innercity life we have in the UK.... One thing I will say is that people are still as friendly as they were.... |
