She finally passed due to a stroke this morning.

I know I'm probably the only one here who was pro Mrs T but very sad day. My springer spaniel Maggie is mourning!

Not the only one Mr. Mabley. The first PM who I conciously took notice of I suppose.

Although not popular amoung many Baroness Thatcher was an iconic woman and leader of this country. I have to agree with David Cameron's comments stating she will be remebered as the greatest peace time leader. (Although not all for the right reasons) She was in power when I studied politics so find her interesting and understand it wil be a sad passing for many.

I am a great Thatcher fan even though I totally understand and respect that her politics will be the opposite of many folk.

Mrs T even did a couple of major things which I thought were atrocious.

However , I think that even many Labour voters of today would agree that she had more spine , self conviction and belief in public service than most of the chinless self serving wonders on the front benches today ( what ever party). It disgusts me that I need to pick one to vote for TBH.

RIP Mrs T

Being a Northerner and living in a mining community that was destroyed, I can not applaud her politics.

But she was a tough old boot and had bigger plums than most.

I'm not sure that politics has place in our forum, but since you've started...

Many people cannot forgive her for her merciless destruction of grammar schools during her period as Education Secretary, which denied many the social mobility from which she had benefited.

That's before we consider her dismantling of Britain's industrial base and communities to which Sean alludes, and an ideological obsession with free markets and privatisation which has come to roost today in the lamentable state of our public services, transport infrastructure and fragmented utilities.

But flogging off council housing to win votes was a smart move, even if the housing shortage it precipitated has dealt an awful blow to family life in the UK.

But I know she has her fans, and she and her cabinet made for some fantastic episodes of Spitting Image!
