When I was at RAF Laarbruch in Germany (November '78 - Nevember '81) the norm was to take newly posted married guys to Amsterdam before their wives were sent out to join them. We used to get there about 10pm, and leave at about 4am. Many times I have been driving along a Dutch motorway on the way home and seen 911 targas being used as police cars. I even saw one once with a policeman stood up on the passenger seat!

I was driving through Germany on the autobahn one day when we entered a restricted speed zone next to two German police bikers side by side in lane 2, we were in lane 3.

Some while later we approached the derestriction sign side by side and all three of us accelerated at the maximum rate. When we hit 165mph the policeman gave us a salute and wave as he'd hit vmax! Away we went and left them for dust at 180mph, awesome feeling :D
