Hi Everyone

I am considering booking on the trackday on 20th April (assuming there are places free). However, having not attended one of these before I would like a bit of advice first.

The plan would be to take the SC and hammer it around the track as fast as I can for a day - take the missus - who would also insist on having a go - probably my son would be up for it also. Maybe take on board some instruction if poss. - because I would definitely need some....

So first of all, is this what track days are about? Or are they about being ultra-competitive about laptimes etc etc - cos if they are I suspect we will be in other driver's way - which would be a PIA for all of us.

Secondly a practical question about maintenance - as it happens I want to get new discs and pads all round on the car anyway - but is it likelly to withstand the punishment? How many cars get carried away on the trailer? Do I need to consider belts/harnesses etc?

Third - Insurance -do I need it, how much is it and where do I get from? - will other cars be insured?

Try a taster track day at silverstone for £49 for one hour, an extra few quid gets you an instructor for a few laps.
There is all types of cars and drivers of all abilities, dont worry about holding people up, there are rules, pull over if some one is catching you up ( i dont mean stop!)
SAFETY is the main thing, idiots will be black flagged but every thing will be explained in the briefing before you go out on track.
Just make sure your oil is topped up and have lots of petrol and then have fun.

no issue about being in the way, there is a code of conduct which all have to follow on the day

you are with fellow Porsche Enthusiasts I would be surprised and disappointed if any cars get damaged

some will have insurance, you can get it the excess is usually high

I'd of thought if you intend to do a hard day there then you'd want your brakes and tyres to be at their peak...!
I'd certainly prefer yours were for starters :?
Porsches are superb at being able to drive to and from a circuit day.
It's usually a mad rush in the morning but later in the day you have plenty of space to really get to grips with it.

There's quite a few insurers around but it can indeed be expensive and the excess is usually quite high :shock:

Find you group and you'll probably learn lots from them.

If you are a trackday novice my advice is not to go with the intention of being on track all day. Take your time and don't worry about keeping up with anyone. Drive at your own pace and find your own comfort zone. If you start chasing a stopwatch you are asking for trouble.
Make sure that the car is in good mechanical condition with decent (bedded- in) pads and that oil is topped up. Bring some along so you can re-check and top up during the day as required. Check the tyres and arrive with a full fuel tank.

If you're not a spanners man take the car to a garage beforehand and get a quick visual inspection carried out on tyres,brakes,suspension, steering to make sure there are no obvious problems. Remember track time will find the weak points much faster than normal driving.
