Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Bought a Samsung Soundbar today in John Lewis. Hooked it up to a Samsung LED 3D TV using HDMI also tried AUX cables.

When switched on in HDMI mode the TV goes mute but no sound out of the Soundbar. Also tried it on a Samsung LCD TV as well with the same result.

I want to make sure its not me before I take it back.

Hi Sean :)

Did you get a remote control with the soundbar ?

On mine (different make) you use the remote to choose which you want...

OR a manual control on the bar ?

All the best Brett :)

Assuming you've got your in's and us the right way around you need to set the source on the sound bar.

Think it's the SAT source button on the sound bar remote.

I suspect that's all it is.

Andy

Nope, the source button is on the right setting on the Soundbar when I used HDMI lead and I changed it to AUX using the jack leads.

Both mute the TV when they are switched on and nothing comes out of Soundbar.

I think it's goosed?

TV hasn't got a speaker out setting has it. Normally found in audio advanced settings. You might need to switch ARC on for the soundbar to pickup a return audio signal from tv through hdmi. The RCA outputs shouldn't mute the tv as they are just an audio out (which I didn't know Samsungs had, normally it's a optical output).

Well done Andy spot on, I took it back earlier today and the tech guy in the store said had I changed the tv settings to external speaker

The sound is so much richer, very pleased with the results :D

Nice one :thumbright: Its usually a setting somewhere buried in a sub-menu. Takes me as long to setup a system as it does to install all the aerial and cabling these days
Enjoy the sound experience :D
