Just picked the Boxster up from its major service. I supplied the oil 10W/40 Total Quartz from Carrefore at £40 for 10L, they changed it & all the filters including the pollen filter. They also added 1L anti freeze & replaced the corroded exhaust clamps & bolts. They picked up on non-Porsche Battery  , non-N rated front tyres, fuel flap emergency cable broken. The loan of a Cayman for a couple of days 2.9 PDK 1200 miles on a 12 plate.
All of that was £366.22 which I thought pretty good. One thing to watch is that the discounted prices for 996 & 986 services INCLUDE VAT. Because I went off-piste with the supplied oil they got confused & added the VAT to it.
Now all ready for Prescott on Sunday :P

Attached Pics is Boxster & loaned Cayman.

How did the Cayman compare?

Yup the Meteor grey is a bit grim, didn't like the Black interior either. The 2.9 is all the engine you'd need on the road in the Cayman (or Boxster). Only managed 50 miles in it so didn't get a chance to play with the PDK. At low speeds it didn't seem very smooth, especially when cold.
Doesn't have the irritating gear light display my Tip Boxster has which was good. Bit noisy at low speeds, which is a combination of engine & tyre noise (19"), but quietens at motorway speeds. The best bit was the steering which was lovely, great feel & weight. Better than the Boxster so maybe the Box needs looking at.
Goes like hell & sounds much better than the Boxster which really needs a Dansk or similar.
But overall glad to get back in the Boxster, hood down & trundle back from Tonbridge.

PS sorry about the monster pic I'll reduce it later!

Got to say I thought you were mad having it serviced at the OPC Jim but that is good value for money I think, especially with the loan car.

Nice car by the way.

Thanks Paul, the fixed price is for 996 & 986 minors & majors (986 is £295 & £395). They also discount plug changes, brake fluid etc. Plus I get 10% off all none scheduled service items for TIPEC membership. This is cheaper than the indies plus I get a shiny loan car. Shame I've been too bloody busy to get out in it :(

I found out today that the 996 fixed price doesn't apply to Turbo's or GT3's. :(

£750 for me.

Thats not a bad deal really, especially with the exhaust clamps and fixings as well as a couple of days hire of a Cayman. I could compete on the price, but not on the Cayman loan car! :?

Shame you did not get a chance to really use the Cayman. My customers always manage to find a way to really use the living daylights out of my loan cars, one of them needed 3 resprays in 18 months due to a multitude of minor scuffs and scrapes, another managed to have a head on collision and took out a Nissan Bluebird (A favour to us all) and one I seriously think has a massive magnet in the rear, as it has backed into several lamposts, been rear ended twice and one customer told us "I scratched the wing mirrors while parking" and we went out after he had gone to find he had beaten both wing mirrors clean off!!

Needless to say, I am not going to offer a Cayman anytime soon... Although I am thinking of buying a handful of Smart cars as loaners, simply because we can just pop off one panel to have it repainted, rather than the whole car going off!! May even keep a spare set of painted panels in stock to quickly swap over.

Something funny about some of my customers I guess, but thinking about it.... They have nearly all been Pistonheads forum members... Maybe I should check for a "How much can you mash a JMG loan car and get away with it" thread?

Hiya Jim, I spoke to OPC Bolton yesterday for a price on a set of number plates as mine have got crap behind the outer film and make the car look scruffy as well as no sign of PORSCHE written on them, and he also told me of the fixed price servicing for 986/996. I was already impressed with the price he quoted and he didn't even mention a courtesy car :D I was never going to consider a service as I would try and tackle the jobs myself but have always been aware of the fact that a stamp in the book is always nice when trying to sell the car in the future, however the courtesy car might just sway me
P.S the plates are £50.00 fitted.

Blimey, they know how to charge for plates! We do them for free at the moment!

What are your loan cars then Jon? Clearly not any sort of Porsche, but hopefully slightly above a Nissan Bluebird!

Post subject:  Re: Just had OPC fixed price service

Our loan cars have now reduced down to one, a VW Golf which is about to be retired (been battered and scuffed then repaired too many times now)

So, looking out to buy 2 or 3 smart cars and a spare set of pre painted panels (obviously all cars and spare panels all the same colour)

In the past we used to have a pair of BMW 5 series and then we got a Passat turbo diesel as well and eventually the golf.. Been retiring them off this year and getting ready to get something else (smart cars)

But before I pull the trigger on the smart cars, I am open to suggestions.

Some people did suggest I get a flock of mint 924's together as loan cars, but I could see some of my customers hammering the living daylights out of them, so thought the smart cars with their auto gearboxes and bumpercar technology panels might do the trick.

I think the big question is, did they used to abuse the BMW's and VW's because they did not like the cars, or is it just people taking an attitude that "its a loan car, lets get our moneys worth and give it a good hiding"???
