Someone just shunted it to the back of my 928. From what I can see there isn't any real damage. The rear bumper is a little loose and not seated right, some of the bolts holding it in place popped out and it could do with a re-spray. So I reckon it is bumper off, spray and back on again and it should be sorted, probably need to replace the trim/seal around the bumper. What are the repercussions of claiming on the insurance? I don’t entirely trust the guy to pay for the damage voluntarily as he thinks it is my fault he drove in the back of me. If I’m going to claim on insurance I’ll need to phone it in soon.

If he drove into the back of you it is his fault, end of.

Go through your insurance company, they will recover the loss from him.

Ok, but will the accident be recorded against the car? And will I get punished with higher premiums

Possibly and in my case it has made no difference to my premiums.

A bumper repair will not effect the value of your car. Just keep the paperwork and the photos post accident to show how minor the damage was.

You need to claim and insist that a Porsche approved body shop do the work. The repair is guaranteed for the life of the car.

Ok I've called it in. Cheers for the tip on the Porsche approved body shop, sounds like good advice.

You should advise your insurers of any accident (it's in the small print) whether you intend to make a claim or not. If the accident is not your fault then there will be no negative marks against you. If the third party is of a dubious character then at least you will be covered for any damage. If damage is less or slightly more than your excess then advise the insurance company that you will not be making a claim. They will hold the details as 'info only'. The 'black mark' will be against the third party as insurance companies now share info via: MIBD, MOJ, DVLA and a wealth of other databases to ward off dodgey claims against them. If the person ran into the back of you then he or she is clearly at fault (providing you weren't reversing your car at the time).

Good call on your part though.
