Put the 928 in for an MOT today and was told I didn't need the bit of paper? They don't issue it unless requested. I requested as I like to keep records, however it is all on-line now. The bit of paper means nothing.

Had the 911 in for MOT first thing this morning, passed with no advisories which is a relief, but a bit shocked with the new MOT certificate, just a piece of printed A4 paper, hmm, not difficult to forge methinks !! |

I wasn't given an option, just given the MOT certificate with a copy of the emmisions, as a matter of interest how long did they take to MOT your car ? |

It was on the ramp for about half an hour, then on the rollers, then tube up the jacksy. The rear number plate lamps were not working, so I asked for them to be fixed there and then. I was probably there an hour? How long were you there? |

Test was about 10 mins, then chatting in the office for 15 mins or so, on site for 30 mins max due to log in time on computer |

The guy was quite thorough with mine.  There was a debate over an exhaust bracket and the handbrake cable with one of the other mechanics. Then the number plate lights were discussed ( are they a fail?) before I said just fix them please. I think there is evidence of previous leaks on the car, steering fluid and engine oil, so I think he was checking if they were current.

Congrats Lindsay but that's a very short test - I think it should take minimum 30 minutes especially with the new checks. My usual guy takes much longer than this but he is very slow and methodical! Drives an old Alvis which tells you all you need to know really. Welcome to The Cloud - the legal requirement is that you have a pass registered on the computer. Amazingly they did this to save a few million on stationery costs for the usual green forms! Bean counters eh? On the plus side had you had any advisories (hard to imagine one of Lindsay's cars with one of those but stay with me) then that is now clear to see on same sheet at certificate rather than being on separate sheet and - ahem - detached by sellers/traders. Of course you could always check online for this info knowing the VIN number but now it's plain to see on the paper, but as you've noticed that's alarmingly easy to fake so from now on diligent buyers will have to check the online records for a car. |

MOT Certificate means nothing now, the police and insurance companies, the only people who it matters to, other than a potential buyer, automatically know within 24 hours if your car is MOT'ed or not. The Police and local authorities also know if your car is taxed and insured within 24 hours, so I am amazed we still get a tax disk and that we get an insurance certificate other than as a receipt so we can check the details. |

Knowing this it still baffles me why a huge number of cars are believed to have no valid insurance - easiest thing in the world for police to be picking them off as they drive around. One wonders why they don't? |

To be fair to the MOT station, they MOT'd the car last year and took well over 30 minutes to test the car, and it was the same tester this year, he did say as there were no advisories last year and it had only done 1800 miles since last year it made his job a lot easier, and he did comment on new rear pads |
