Basically I saw a silver Corsa crash into a Hyundai Matrix with the driver making no obvious attempts to avoid it!

I live at the end of a cul-de-sac and have quite a good view into the road. While I was getting ready for work I happened to be looking out of the window. I saw a silver Corsa come down the road at about 20mph, straight into the side (t-boned) a Matrix that was parked. After the impact the Corsa rolled back slightly, steam coming out of the bonnet from a burst radiator.
Three young lads got out of the Corsa, complete with sweat pants, trainers and hoodies. They started looking at the Corsa when the Matrix owner came out. She looked at bit lost, so after 5 minutes I went out to find out what was happening.
She hadn’t seen what had happened and just saw the accident, so I spoke to her away from the young lads and told her what I saw. I said I would be concerned they have no insurance etc, so it might be a good idea to suggest a settlement for the damage. We agreed that £500 should easily cover it (replacement door).
So I went over to the three lads and told them that the owner wanted £500 to cover her damages. One of them disappeared and 5 mins later came back with the cash.

I then left for work, but apparently the Police turned up and took photos. The Corsa was left.. but the three lads disappeared.

What a strange start to the day!

Slight update!

The driver was arrested this morning, no Insurance and no driving licence. Car impounded.

Nice one!
Your good samaritan bit was very fortunate for the lady owner (to the tune of £500 she should have offered you something for your trouble  )

My daughter wasn't so lucky, her car was stationary, waiting to turn right) and some bloke ran into the back then drove off, her car was a right off, driver never found, that stuffed any cheap insurance for a few years! (Ironically we saw her car on a low loader a few months later, repaired or what!)

The £500 would probably be less than the crashers insurance, lets hope he is kept off the road after this incident.

You'd think he might take a little more care, then!

Its about £600 fine for no insurance (plus the Brucey bonus points of course), so his £500 would have been a bargain if he had got away with it
