One for you techies  Looking to get more into the 'modern' age with a new phone as my old Nokia is coming upto 5 years old now! Who uses what out there between Iphone, Blackberry, Windows or Android operating systems? Just want to be able to send/retrieve emails and texts easily, take photo and film to send, have a map/sat nav app and oh make a few phone calls :D Also want it to do this quickly with no connection or compatability issues like my daughters Samsung Chat335 has. Looked at the new Nokia Lumina800 which looks really nice, anyone got one yet to review on?

Have to say I favour the HTC android range at present using HTC Desire due for an update beginning of year and will stick with HTC on android system.

I have 2 blackberrys one for work & one for personal. I think they're great, fantastic battery life, easy to use & both of mine have been 100% reliable, apart from an earlier glitch with the work one. I know a few business people with iPhones & the crap battery life & Bluetooth has driven some of them mad. If you want a tool go for the BB, if you want a gadget (cough toy cough) then the iPhone is what you want!

Hi Lee :)

I was told that the Iphone will only run Satnav and not multitask at the same time...is that true ?

Personally I use an old HTC TYTN 11 ,briliant business phone...satnav, bluetooth (that works, unlike the iphone bluetooth lol) twin cameras etc etc....doubt you can get one new now, but I would go for another HTC any day of the week...

All the best Brett :)

Funny story, I'm typing this on my iPhone and my Blackberry is not working again. The iPhone can multi task, which is an issue with battery life. If you don't double click the home button and close the app' down it continues to run in the back ground draining the battery. I've never had an issue with Bluetooth.

The blackberry has issues syncing with email and my battery has suffered a problem with life span.

Thank you all, I'll keep researching a bit more, seems they all have pro's and cons like the tv equipment I deal in, they're great when they work. The trackpad sensitivity is an issue with me, my daughters Samsung is crazy and drives me mad trying to get the cursor onto the icon I want and it has already broken after a month. Have these touch screens had any problems?

i asked this same question to the head of mobile dev at my place of work recently and he told me that the samsung galaxy s is the best one out there right now, and beats the iphone for overall usability and that is what he would recommend head and shoulders above the rest. another of our developers seconded that as well, having had blackberrys and iphones previously.

i have the htc desire and from my experience i would not recommend it, partly due to battery life but also because the internal memory is terrible and you can only download a few add-ons and apps before the thing gets full and not all apps are built so that you can save them to your sd storage card. also if i use my htc heavily i.e. use it for web, apps and email, then if it is fully charged at 8am, by the time i get to around 2pm the battery is critical, which i think is terrible performance.

if i were going to change i'd be going for the samsung galaxy s i think.

Ive had the Iphone since the very first model, its battery life can be very short, depending on how you 'constantly' play with in the early days of use. but I can say the SatNav, the F1 data link, and various other petrolhead related apps, does tend to get me using it a lot......

In all honesty, I would rather sell one of my kidneys, than not have my iphone now......

I am forced to use Blackberry for work, but use iPhone for personal stuff so can offer perspective.

Am self-confessed Apple fanboy, but admit that Blackberry is a better email machine compared with iPhone (in terms of handling email anyway - the keyboard is horrible).

This is BB's sole advantage. For everything else it is like going back to the 1980s in terms of interface and appearance. Truly awful piece of kit.

You have a limited list of thhings you want your phone to do, but believe me once you start using iApps it opens up a limitless world of possibilities (yes including an app that tracks your g forces and acceleartion during a drive). By comparison Blackberry App World is a sad joke.

The iPhone does have problem of limited battery life with newer versions. But the experience of using it is so natural and elegant. It does become an extension of yourself.

A friend who is very tech savvy does rave about his Samsung Galaxy so I guess that's an alternative. Android has a big app base too but I still get impression all the best and widest choice of apps is written for iOS.

Bear in mind too that it's looking likely that Blackberry's maker RIM is alleged in business pages to be going down the toilet, with decreeasing Blackberry sales (many corporates are switching to iPhone which handles Exchange servers fine now for email and calendar) and failure of their Playbook tablet (currently being discounted to well below 1/2 of launch price and still few takers). If and when RIM closes down ther's no knowing what will happen to their email servers on which Blackberry relies.

Yes Andrew it must have been dodgy Google Maps app on iPhone being accurate only to nearest continent!

Happy xmas to you and your family too Andrew - hope Santa brings you an iPhone
