Post subject: | Laon in 2 weeks time |
I have spent the last couple of days servicing and fettling the 924 for the trip down to Laon over the May bank holiday. Just got the stone chips on the front to sort out today, then a good clean and polish next weekend. I will put some miles on it over the next few days to make sure nothing falls off ![]() The man in the shop gave me a tip for putting on the headlight deflectors. Park the car close to a wall, switch on the headlights and then offer up the deflectors to the lights, when the beam bends to the right, you know that you have the right position. Then mark the headlight glass where they go, that way you will know where to stick them when you are waiting for the ferry. I just need to work out what to mark them with. Any thoughts guys? |

Yup just thinking that I need to get on with this! Need to check travel insurance & 5 star cover for the car. For the lights, all you need is a piece of tape that knocks off the kick up on the left of the headlight pattern. Doesn't need to be specific head light deflectors. Will send out a mail later about meeting up & breakfast. |

When I am in France I use a Landrover RHD and I have never taped the lights (that's for 7 years continuously) and have never had any problems, just don't use main beam when there is oncoming traffic |

Hi Jim The 924 is insured with RH and it includes European Breakdown cover! It's as good as the RAC cover. I did ring them up to check as I thought that I might be mis-reading it!! Have you checked your insurance policy to see what is already included? David |

Have you checked your insurance policy to see what is already included? David CVI definitely don't include breakdown cover which is a pain. The Nationwide Bldg Soc now do personal cover abroad as part of a rejig last year but now charge for drawing cash on ATMs abroad, which for someone who travels as much as I do is a pain ![]() |

I have already bought a set of beam benders so I am loathed to just use duck tape on the headlights. Might just fix them on on the Thursday night and drive to the ferry terminal with them on. I will need to scrub them up first, because they retract, they don't get done normally ![]() |

You could always stick the deflectors on with some tape and take photos on you phone and use these as a reference at the ferry |

I can sort out breakfast at Maidstone Services on Friday and reserve a parking area for us all. I think I also have a load of high viz vests, that we use for the shows I will have a check at home this evening. |

Woo Hoo just booked 5 star cover for the car & had to insure Becky! My current account with the Nationwide covers me but because the transfers to our joint come from my Nationwide account that doesn't count to cover ecks on the joint ![]() Getting closer now & beginning to look forward to it! PS Sent mail to the SELNK members about meeting arangements & Breakfast. |

Use a whiteboard or dry marker pen then this can be wiped off once the deflectors are stuck on, or if you get it in the wrong position. I think for my last trip to Holland I just stuck them on before leaving home so they were ready to go before leaving the UK and had no issues on the trip to Hull (it was daylight though). |

924 is now fully serviced and ready to go! Such a simple car to keep going, after all, it's only a 2 litre Golf with a pretty body. The service this this year cost me just under £50. Last year, it was about £20 for just oil and an oil filter. It's a non interference engine, so no real cambelt issues either. don't care that they call it a poor man's Porsche ![]() |

I'm OK Sean but I'll bung it out on the mail group if that is OK, most aren't on here. If you want to stay Porsche history give Aaron (Service Manager Tonbridge) a ring on 01732 361222 or if you want an Indie give me a ring & I can give you a number for several. If you need any help I'm around today & tomorrow AM. |
