Post subject: | AA renewal - Beware! |
Hi All, Just wanted to let you all know about the annual argument with the AA over renewal. I've been with the AA for the best part of 12 years now and for the most part, no complaints except when it comes to renewal. This year I've been quoted £210.50. This includes Roadside, Home Start, Relay and the missus on the policy. First thing I did was go on the 'net and look what the AA are offering new members. Same level of cover £129!!! So I call and complain. Conversation goes something like thus: I say "Why can't you just offer me the best price every year so I don't have to call you every year to ask why as an existing, loyal customer you're charging me more than new customers?" They say "Well we have to be fair to all our customers". I say "Eh? How does that work then? How is it fair that you're charging me more?" No response from AA operator. Anyway, long story short, they have agreed (as they do every year) to do it at the new customer rate. They said they would do it just this once. I told them I've been doing this every year for about the past 10 years! And basically if they didn't offer it me at the reduced price, I would cancel my policy and go elsewhere. That did the trick! Nothing like voting with your feet! I'm glad I'm on the ball. There's probably customers out there that don't even bother to check whether they're being fleeced every year! Shop around - you'll be amazed at the savings. So thats £81.50 into my Porsche fund. Only need about another £19,918.50 now. ![]() Ben ![]() |

I do exactly the same every year Ben. They just give me the on-line price straight away when I ring up to question the high renewal cost. It's a shame that the corporate way these days is to so often reward customer loyalty with ripping people off. |

I get breakdown cover with my insurance for 20 pounds a year, and that includes home start, euro cover and towing no questions asked (ie. outside an off road site covered in mud when it was clear I didnt break down on the road!) And my insurance is 260 a year fully comp (9000 value and 25 yrs old). Sounds like £200 for the year is crazy!!!! |

I posted about this sometime ago. I was told it is because the AA computer system only permits one discount code & I get free relay plus having been with them since 1987! I get the TIPEC discount straight away after a quick phone call so have given up moaning about it. I admit it would be better if it was automatic but it isn't. I don't sign up for "free breakdown cover" on my isnurance because it invariable isn't free or it is limited in one way or another. A lot use Green Flag who don't like older cars so that is one reason. |

I get (admittedly basic level) free AA membership with my bank account. The one time I’ve needed to use them, the AA were brilliant, so I’m quite happy sticking with that. |
