Oh dear, I have a major dilemma on my hands. Before I bought my 968 I wanted a 996, but couldn't find what I wanted at the price I wanted to pay, with the right hsitory etc. So I found this damn nice 968 with a very good history, which ticked many boxes and I bought it. And I truly love it. However, a friend of mine who has a 996 is sadly highly likely to lose his job in June. He has an X plate 996 C2 in tip top condition, with a full service history, 3 owners (inc him) and every scrap of paper imaginable, including the original sales invoice. 81,000 on the clock and the car is a 'garaged toy for the nice weekends' (his words not mine). He's 63 and is considering retiring should he lose his job (he will get a decent pay off and full pension). If he does retire he's said he will very likely sell the 996. And he'll give me first refusal if he sells (which isn't guaranteed). I've seen the car several times, it's in great condition and I've had a passenger ride in it (though haven't driven it myself yet). So, do I sell the 968 if my friend puts the 996 up for sale and get my dream car, or do I stick with my 968?? I know they will be very different drives and I'm unlikely to get cheap classic insurance on such a modern 996. Anyone owned both and care to comment??? Opinions welcome from all. TIA. |

If your friend does decide to sell and if it is as good as you say, then buy it. You only live once ![]() |

You will need to sell the 968 which is the only problem. Since it could take awhile I'd put it on now & see if you can find a buyer! If you don't go for it you will probably always regret that you didn't! |

How about part exchange the two cars. Then your friend keeps enjoying Porsche ownership as well |

it depends how bad the 911 itch is I think. If you really want one then it sounds a great opportunity. However I think bang for buck your current car is better |

If you have a 911 itch its got to be scratched, I know I've done it, I was lucky selling my 944S, first person to look at it bought it, good luck with your decision |

Must have been one of the best 44s in the country and you spoilt it rotten. Any buyer who had seen a few then saw yours would have leapt at it (assuming Greg's or Colin's not for sale <g>). So no luck involved but a lot of Zymol! |

My '44 is mint. But only one person has been to look at it. Not what they wanted. I could sell it to a dealer. But they will just double the price & rip somebody off. ![]() |

I did ask about PX'ing my 968 along with cash for his 911 but if he looses his job he just won't have the cash for this kind of thing as he still has a mortgage etc. So, I do have a 911 itch.......and my 968 is for sale - £5,250 OVNO with 10 months road tax and 12 months MOT. Will post it in the For Sale section at the weekend. Will be sorry to see the 968 go but as Dave got his at risk letter last week and is now in consultation over his highly likely job loss, I just can't turn down the opportunity. Thanks for all comments. |
